Why Kehlani’s ‘CRZY’ is Empowering

On March 28th, R&B singer, Kehlani, tried to commit suicide by cheating allegations. Ex-boyfriend, PARTYNEXTDOOR, had posted a picture on his Instagram of him and Kehlani in bed showing former boyfriend, NBA star, Kyrie Irving, that she had cheated on him. Clearly devastated with the accusation and hate from “fans,” she tried to end her life but was saved. She had posted an Instagram picture along with a message when she had woken up in the hospital. The message stated:

“Today I wanted to leave this earth. Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I’d get to such a low point. But… Don’t believe the blogs you read… No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person… Everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding… But as of today, I had no single wish to see tomorrow… But God saved me for a reason, and for that… I must be grateful… Cuz I’m not in heaven right now for a reason… On that note… Bye Instagram.'”

After the picture was posted, Kehlani deleted her Instagram account. She had been kept in a psychiatric hold until she was no longer a threat to herself.

Months after the incident, Kehlani came back and released new single ‘CRZY.’ ‘CRZY’ is about her being stronger than ever. She tells herself that she is compassionate, self-assured, and most importantly, confident. She applauds her own success and challenges that she had faced. The lyrics are emotional and captivating. Kehlani wrote this song because she conquered her struggle and demons.

Not a lot of people can say that they are confident in themselves. Many people had faced tough challenges in their lives. People can relate to this song. Everyone has demons. It comes down to yourself and if you are strong enough to empower them…you are.
