Why Does a Dog Make a Great BFF?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Dogs are the best people. They are considered to be the best pets ever. We can learn a lot from our dogs. We can learn the meaning of affection, responsibility and the true meaning of friendship. Some people even consider their dogs a member of the family. Dogs are insanely smart. It is a known fact that dogs are capable of understanding up to 250 words and gestures.

Dogs are the most loyal. They are our protectors. They will lay down their life for their family without hesitating. Dogs give genuine love in abundance, no matter what. They can’t talk, but they understand you. They will listen to every single word you tell them. They won’t judge you for the way you look, the wrong decisions you made in your life, or anything. They just love you simply for nurturing them with love and care. They can sense when something is wrong and are there to comfort you. They will never hold a grudge on you or upset you on purpose. They love to play and have you’re all of your attention. Dogs have the power to make people very happy. When I see a dog, I can’t help but think how cute they are! Sometimes I even ask permission from their owner to pet them!

I have two puppies, Bentley and Kylo. Bentley is a Bichon Poodle and Kylo is a German Shorthaired Pointer. Coming home from school after a stressful day is the best. They greet me with so much enthusiasm. I look forward to going home and seeing them. They don’t care about anything else when I walk into the house. As soon as I walk through the door, they are so excited to see me. It makes me happy because they love me so much that they never get bored seeing my face. They treat each other like their brothers and look out for one another. I think a lot of dog owners can relate to taking so many pictures of their dogs like me. They make my heart swell without even trying! They can just sit there and I’ll be close to tears! They are my babies!

We learn from our dogs to appreciate the little things. To appreciate the little efforts our loved ones do for us. Everyday to a dog is like waking up on Christmas morning for children. You are their present they are so excited to unwrap and play with immediately. Dogs give us a whole new meaning of love and friendship that some might not think exists. They are our family. To us, dogs are only a part of our life. To them, we are their whole life. They sure do make amazing BFFs and I’m lucky to have two of them in my life.
