This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Name: Haley Pereyo

Year: Freshman

Major: Communications: New Media

Hometown: Commack, NY

What do you do on campus? “I am the Junior Social Media Editor for #MolloyLife Media. I am also a writer for the Forum, Molloy’s newspaper.”

What is it like to be Junior Social Media Editor? “Being Junior Social Media Editor is hard work but also a lot of fun. Being a New Media major, social media is what I am spending four years studying, so it’s great having experience in a professional setting so early in my college career.”

We heard you used to work the Huffington Post, What was that like?

“For the last four years, I have been a freelance blogger for The Huffington Post. I started my freshman year of high school and have been writing for them ever since. I’ve made some amazing friends and connections through the community of bloggers. I was nervous at first because my writing would be seen very publicly but, in the end it has taught me a lot about myself.”

What article did you have the most fun writing?

“My favorite post that I’ve written is about body shaming. I had a moment of clarity about my self esteem and body confidence, I guess I would call it, and I just wrote it down in a freewrite. A few weeks later, I found it in my notes and decided to publish it for Huffington Post. It was the most fun to write because it was so organic, it flowed. The best pieces of writing happen like that.”

Who is your favorite artist or band to listen to when you write?

“I love listening to sounds actually when I write. I usually listen to wave sounds and that helps me concentrate, but when I need a break, Taylor Swift is my go-to, always. She’s the best!”

What did it feel like when you saw your first article got posted?

“I was amazed. When my first post was up, I was so excited but equally as nervous because I had never shared my writing like that before. It was so public but I just felt like it was time for me to share my pieces of writing with others.”

What is your favorite thing about being the Junior Social Media Editor?

“My favorite thing about being Junior Social Media Editor is the people that I get to work with. My #MolloyLife Media family, is what I call them because that is what they are to me. They have given me the platform to express myself, work hard, gain new skills, and have a lot of fun. I am lucky to have these people in my life.”
