This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Name: Brian Michels

Year: Freshman business program here at Molloy. I am also one of the honors council representatives for the class of 2019 for the Honors Program as well.”

What is it like to be an athlete full time student? “Being an athlete and a full-time student is second nature to me. I have participated in sports since I was 12 years old, so I have grown accustomed to the stringent schedule. It can become tough at times, but with the proper planning and organization of one’s schedule, the stress can be avoided.”

When did you get into track? “I began my track career as a freshman in high school. I only ever became serious about my future as a runner the start of my junior year. I turned in my football helmet and wrestling singlet for new shoes and running shorts. I then began participating in Cross-Country and Indoor Track, as well as continuing my current commitment to the Outdoor program.”

What made you do track in college? “I decided to run in college because I enjoy it, as well as spending time with the members of my team. My high school team made up the majority of my friend group, and I longed for that to be a part of my college experience as well. My teammates are always there for me, and although the actual sport can be tedious at times, they have become some of my best friends.”

What songs did you perform at the lip sync battle? Crocodile Rock by Elton John, Dynamo of Volition by Jason Mraz, and R Kelly’s Remix to Ignition.

Was there any special reasoning behind your song choices? “There was no special meaning, just the fact that they were fun and danceable.”

Did you practice a lot? “I would say I practiced a decent amount. I listened to the songs frequently because they are some of my favorites, so I guess I naturally learned the lyrics.

Did you practice in front of your teammates? “Definitely not, I wanted them to see it on stage for the first time.”

How did it make you feel to make it to the final round? “It was pretty exciting! Daniel Roberts was quite the performer, so I was somewhat shocked to find out that I had made it to the final round.”

What did it feel like to win? “Winning the first lip sync battle was great. I was happy to do well in front of all my fellow students and friends, and I was just thankful to have been given this fun opportunity to make some people laugh.”
