Former One Direction member, Louis Tomlinson, had decided to join the rest of the former members and came out with his own single. ‘Just Hold On’ is best described as a dance song collaboration with DJ Steve Aoki. Although the song is very upbeat and catchy, the lyrics are very deep and hold meaning to Louis.
On December 7th, Louis’s mom, Johanna, lost her battle to leukemia. She was only 43 and left behind seven children, including Louis. The boys were there for him, even Zayn Malik tweeted sending Louis his love and prayers. In the lyrics, Louis repeats, “Darling, just hold on,” right before the beat uprises. Even though it’s unoriginal, it gains a lot of meaning for him considering what he is going through right now. He asks himself in verses, “What do you do when the chapter ends? Do you close the book and never see it again? Where do you go when the story’s done?” The chorus goes: “The sun goes down and it comes back up. The world, it turns, no matter what.” He is sending himself advice by putting the deep lyrics into a happy dancing beat.
Just days after his mother’s death, Louis performed his debut single on the X FACTOR UK. Louis dedicated his emotional performance to his mother. It was very brave of him to turn his grief and put everything he was feeling into the song. Tomlinson kept his composure throughout the performance but became choked up at the end. After the performance, Simon Cowell expressed his thoughts to Louis about how proud his mother was of him and how much he respects Louis for being so brave. ‘Just Hold On’ had already reached the number one spot on iTunes charts in numerous countries.
As a former- Directioner, I am very proud of Louis’s strength. Not that I had my doubts about it, but he’s going to be successful in his career. This is only the beginning of a new chapter for him.
