This Halloween Freddy Wants To Play With You.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Halloween is right around the corner and let’s face it- some of us aren’t really in the trick-or-treating mood anymore. So what are you going to do to turn that around? Scary movie night? Too basic. Haunted House? I said a good scare not a heart attack. Take a late night stroll around your neighborhood during a full moon? What, are you nuts? With all these crazy clowns running around you want to go walking around a neighborhood AT NIGHT??…Anyway it’s getting a harder and harder to get a good scare with each passing Halloween am I right? So I was thinking why not do something most of us hate doing and read a scary book, yes you read that correctly (see what I did there?) So, read a book I mean you’re already reading this feature so why not? But in case you’re not convinced think about it this way, when you’re reading you need to concentrate. So what do you do? You set the mood: turn the TV off, put the phone away (I know its hard for most but try you’ll be ok) and maybe dim the lights a bit just enough so its dark but you can still read your book. Now you’re in the mood to be scared and here’s a book that’ll give you a good fright, and if it doesn’t, it’ll at least give you a good adventure. It’s called Five Night’s at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes by Scott Cawthon. It’s based on a well received indie horror game made by the author. What pray tell is the story behind these books/horror games? Well, its just a couple of kids who were murdered in a popular pizzeria and stuffed inside the bodies of the animatronics which they now possess and haunt the pizzeria- nothing too terrifying.

The book is a spinoff of the game where the series originally began, but this time it places a different story and characters unique only to the book to experience the horror of “Fazbear’s Pizzeria.” In case some of you still aren’t convinced that this would be a good scary read, even if you haven’t played the games beforehand, then imagine you’re in a dark, enclosed, abandoned space where the only light you have is from the piercing, luminescent eyes of 4 homicidal possessed animatronics trying to kill you. Sounds fun doesn’t it? Good luck sleeping tonight. I would love to give more of an in depth description of the book, but I can’t do so without giving away the story. Although I can encourage you to play/read up on the lore behind the video game, Five Nights At Freddy’s that would give you a premise before you dive into the book. Even, if you don’t play video games and know nothing of this game or the creator, the book should still give a good scare and put you into the uneasy, paranoid, feeling of the Halloween spirit. But if you’re a gamer like me you’ve already read the book so be sure to share it with others. Well, what are you waiting for? Go get the book! Freddy and his friends are waiting for you.
