The freshman 15, 20, 30, got you? Here’re 5 helpful tips on how to get back on track.

1. Have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack right!

Having a big healthy breakfast before that 7:30 or 9 A.M class helps you stay alerted and focused. Chose wisely when having lunch, that way you don’t get that sudden urge to fall asleep in your late afternoon class or work. Snack lightly between meals to keep you going during the day. Meal preps always work! Making your own lunch or dinner the night before, it can save you time and money. For dinner, plan ahead. Try to focus on color on your plate! Mix it up during the week and try new things, don’t go for the Ramen!

2. Try to exercise at least 5 times a week!

Working out 5 times a week really speeds up the process of trying to get fit. Out of those 5 times, 3 should be strength training, 2 should be cardio and 2 rest days. Go to your school’s intramural sports night and enjoy a night with some friends. Go to your gym’s Zumba class and dance your worries away. Go on walks or runs with friends on the beach. Just try to go out and get active!

3. Chose the healthier option and watch your portions!

When out to eat with friends during your break from classes or choosing what to have for dinner, pick the better option! When it comes to portioning out your plate, make sure everything is a reasonable amount. Don’t eat with your eyes!

4. Cheat day

Everyone should have a cheat day. Once a week, pick a day where you indulge in something delicious and unhealthy. Go get a pint of Haagen Dazs cookie dough ice cream or get a burger with fries! Treat yourself, you deserve it.

5. Be good to yourself!

Healthy eating and exercising aren’t the only things that help you get fit, treating yourself right also helps. Staying healthy mentally, really benefits you in staying healthy physically. Never doubt yourself and be confident! You can do it!
