5 Fun Things to Do on Long Island This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Do you need new things to do on Long Island this summer other than going to the beach? Check out these cool places to visit!

1. Go to a Sporting Event!

There are two sports teams that play on Long Island that I love to check out, The first one is The Long Island Ducks, a minor league baseball team that plays in East Islip, NY! Their funny mascot Quackerjack makes the game more fun because he loves to hype up the crowd with jokes and laughter! They also have mini games in between innings such as a contestant has to spin around with a bat on their forehead on a bat several times then run in a line to a finish line to beat their opponents. The second are The New York Cosmos, a soccer team in the North American Soccer League (NASL). They play at the James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University in Uniondale NY. I love going to Cosmos games and rooting on my favorite soccer team by cheering and chanting along with other supporters! Both teams tickets are inexpensive and super fun to go to with family, friends or even on date!

2. Visit the Outlets!

Everyone needs a new outfit, why spend extra money shopping in a regular store? One of the best parts about shopping on Long Island is that we have two Tanger Outlets! Whether you go to Deer Park or Riverhead, going to the outlets is always fun and an activity I love to do. Tanger outlets are outdoors and have amazing shops and you can sit in the sun by the fountain in Deer Park and have lunch from one of the many restaurants in the outlets. On the plus there is also a movie theater there!

3. Grab a Drink and Dessert at Sip This!

Sip This is located at 64 Rockaway Avente in my hometown of Valley Stream, New York, and they offer a variety of entertainment and events! Click here to see a list of all of their events ranging from comedy nights, to Open Mic nights to magic and even trivia! I love going to the Open Mic nights and checking out some of long islands very talented musicians, some of who I mentioned in this article that I wrote a while back. Sip This had the best and most friendly baristas! Their menu of drinks vary from various flavored iced and hot coffees to lattes, to awesome chilly drinks (my favorite is the Cake Batter) to smoothies and milk shakes. The also have delicious cakes and homemade desserts! (Try the cookies and cream cookies, the owner, Stephanie, makes them and they are delicious!) They also make scrumptious waffles that you can get ice cream on. In the summer, they even serve yummy gelato!

4. Go to a Concert!

Although this may be the priciest idea, going to a concert on the island is a super fun thing to do (weather permitting). You can check out a show at Jones Beach or drive out east to Farmingville to the Pennysaver Amphitheater or even a free show at the Harry Chapin Lakeside theater in Eisenhower park! They all offer a variety of concerts from the Vans Warped Tour at Jones Beach, to Hunter Hayes at the Pennysaver Amphitheater to the unannounced acts for Fresh 102.7’s fresh in the park free concert at the Harry Chapin Lakeside theater in Eisenhower park.

5. Go Out East!

Going out east is something I love doing! When I go see my family out there, I love walking around town and people watching! I also love going to my favorite place Scoop Du Jour on Newtown Lane. They have amazing ice cream there! Hey, you may even spot a celebrity out east! (I met Alec Baldwin in a cafe out east once!) And if you are 21 or older, they have a bunch of vineyards and you can go wine tasting. There are also farm stands along the way which I love stopping at!
