10 Songs To Add To Your Summer Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Molloy chapter.

Here are some songs great for blasting in your car with the windows rolled down on a nice summer day! Plus, there is a cool surprise waiting for you at the bottom of this article!

1. NO – Meghan Trainor

This new hit from M-Train is sure to be a summer hit. With the lyrics speaking to girls about how to tell annoying guys to leave them alone when they don’t get the hint that we’re not intereseted! The music video is very cool as well.

2. Hold Back The River – James Bay

James Bay? You mean James BAE! James Bay is an up and coming musician from the UK who you might have seen on Dancing With The Stars a few weeks ago as a musical performer. This Grammy™ nominated song was performed live on the show to accompany a competing couple. James Bay has also been nominated for various amounts of awards.  “Hold Back The River” is definitely one of the slower songs on this list but it really builds when it gets to the chorus. This song has more of an “indie” vibe than a “pop” vibe. In an interview that he did, he said the song was about pausing or taking time out of all the madness happening to be able to see his friends and family who he misses. How humble!! Nonetheless, this song is amazing and everybody should not only check out “Hold Back The River”, but the rest of “Chaos and the Calm” and his newest single “Running.”

3. Cake By The Ocean – DNCE

Is that…? Yep you guessed it, Joe Jonas in his new musical adventure. Although he is no longer helping churn out pop hits in the band with his brothers, Joe Jonas is still churning out hits in his new band DNCE. This song is so catchy!

4. Santeria – Sublime

Definitely one of the older songs on the list, thats for sure. Nonetheless, this is still a great song that should be in everyones playlists.

5. T- Shirt- Thomas Rhett

This country song is gaining its popularity on the charts. This catchy song is off Thomas Rhetts newest album “Tangled Up”. If you wait patiently (like I am) the channel CMT is going to have a specical program called “CMT Crossroads” where Thomas Rhett will team up with Nick Jonas to sing each of their songs.

6. Stressed Out – Twenty One Pilots

Ever get stressed out? Well Twenty One Pilots does! Blast this awesome song to help you de-stress!

7. Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked – Cage The Elephant

An old song but a classic. I think everyone has heard this song but if not, that is quite alright. Definitely give it a listen, because it is awesome!

8. Beautiful Soul – Jesse McCartney

Such a classic song. Some of us lions and lionesses got the chance to see his beautiful face here at Molloy College as the end of the year preformer. If you didn’t, that’s quite alright, you can hear his beautiful voice in this song.

9. My House – Flo Rida

This song is quickly working its way up the charts and getting stuck in our minds!

10. Wild Things – Alessia Cara

This song is becoming very popular and it is quite catchy. You might know her other popular song “Here” but, this one is much better! This song is all about individuality, not conforming and standing out.
