With the ending of Halloween and the start of the Christmas season, many people forget that one little, or not so little, holiday of Thanksgiving. I personally love this time of year; all of the holidays lined up, and Thanksgiving is a truly special one. Not only do you get to spend it with all of the different people you love, but you get to wear sweatpants to an otherwise formal dinner because you will just eat that much.

I was just recently employed, which means my Thanksgiving plans are up to my manager. I will either be working where I go to school, or I will be able to go home. Now I know that not everyone’s issue with going home is because they have to work, but sometimes because students can’t afford to go home and so they just stay around campus. Many people that have been college students know that going home when you can is important because you can get away. So I’ll show you how to survive Thanksgiving away from home.

An obvious choice is to gather some other friends that are also not going home for Thanksgiving and having yourself a little mukbang with all your favorite foods. Many restaurants will still be open on Thanksgiving, or you could even go to a local grocery store if it is open and make some simple food options. You don’t have to be an expert cook, and many dorm buildings have a stove and the basic kitchen necessities.

If no one you know is staying at school for the holiday then you can still have a mukbang, and still feel the warmth of family. Now with technology we can be face to face with anyone around the world just by using a computer or your smartphone. So set up a time that works for everyone and just be apart of your family’s Thanksgiving without actually being there. Put together a little food for yourself and just be with family even if you are miles away.

If you would rather be by yourself on Thanksgiving and give thanks privately, that, of course, is an option. Plan your own perfect Thanksgiving. Plan what you want to do, and what movies or TV shows to watch if you even want to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

There have been a lot of ups and downs this year and there are a lot of things we can be thankful for and others we are not so thankful for. This year you celebrate how you want to celebrate, create new traditions and make it a Thanksgiving that you are thankful for.
