This year writing articles was difficult to decide what to write for her campus. I wanted to write about something meaningful and something I loved. So I decided to write about something I grew up with, Star Wars. I’m going to be writing about the movies and even a few of the series, starting with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (Ep1). The Phantom Menace came out on May 19th, 1999; the movie is considered to be the first movie in the Star Wars universe. As most of the fandom knows the movie did not come out first, in fact, it was the fourth movie to be released in the Star Wars universe.
The Phantom Menace movie starts with two Jedi Knights (Qui-gon jinn & Obi-wan Kenobi) boarding the trade federation blockade. The trade federation is in control of the interstellar shipping, and can severely damage a planet depending on their treaties. The negotiations between the Jedi and the trade federation were quite short as the trade federation was ordered to kill them by Lord Sidious. Lord Sidious as we learn from the movie is a sith lord, a great enemy to the Jedi knights. By orders of the sith lord, the Trade Federation invade Naboo in hopes of getting the queen to sign a treaty to make the invasion legal. The Jedi Knights are able to flee with the queen to try and make their way to Coruscant but are forced to land at a planet called Tatooine.
On Tatooine we are introduced to a very important character, Anakin Skywalker is one of the main characters in movies 1-3. Anakin is a slave boy owned by Gardulla The Hutt, the Hutts are gangsters that run Tatooine running slavery and illegal trades. Qui-gon finds out that Skywalker has a high Midi-chlorian count and not having a father makes him believe that he is the chosen one to bring balance to the force. Qui-gon then makes a bet with Watto, a bug who owns Anakin, that if he was able to win the pod race then Qui-gon would be able to leave with Anakin and that he would be free.
The movie ends with a celebration on Naboo between the Gun-guns and the Naboo after the Republic refused to help free Naboo forcing the Gun-guns to help liberate the planet. Obi-wan Kenobi trained Anakin due to Darth Maul killing Qui-gon Jinn on Naboo when they went back to free Queen Amidala’s planet. The Jedi council is on edge with Obi-wan training him due to him just losing his master and being a padawan not long ago.
