Living Outside Your Comfort Zone

If you’re anything like me, you like to remain in in a bubble where you are comfortable and content. In fact, it’s all too easy to live your life staying inside that little comfort zone you have created for yourself. After all, why leave when everything seems to be going well for you there?

I’m here to tell you that there are plenty of reasons to take the risk and leave your comfort zone because that’s not all there is to life. There’s something more out there that’s beyond your little bubble of comfort.

This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to go on a mission trip to England and France. Rather than going on a traditional physical mission trip, this was a spiritual mission, where our main goal was to influence people’s spiritual well being. To do this, we talked to people. That was it. We shared our time with them, plain and simple.

We live in a world filled with cell phones and so much social anxiety that we pretend we’re on our phones just to avoid having a potentially awkward conversation with the person next to us. That’s just the way our society has become.

However, here’s a new perspective for you that I learned from my trip: That woman sitting all alone on the bench . . . when was the last time someone took the time to talk to her? Or what about that man right across from you? You never know what that little bit of kindness, just from having a simple conversation might do for someone. You might leave an impact that is bigger than you will ever know.

Sure, it’s not easy to go up to someone you don’t know and start a conversation, but what’s the worst that could happen? It might be awkward or uncomfortable? Trust me, I could write a book on all of the awkward things that happened to me, but in the end you are able to come out that much stronger.

There’s something exhilarating about setting all your fears aside and diving headfirst into something that previously terrified you. Besides, the feeling in the end of knowing you accomplished the task and still survived makes it all worth it! So what are you waiting for? Find something that makes you a little nervous, take the risk and step outside your comfort zone. I dare you.
