Her Campus: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Lizzy Severns: “The adrenaline rush when I start painting something. It sucks at first to get the rough draft done, but after that it’s a race with yourself and I love that. I don’t know if anyone will understand what I mean, but I do. Everyone always says how I paint and draw so fast, but that’s just how I do it.”
HC: What would you consider to be your “go-to” style of art?
LS: “I have been thinking about that lately. I would say it’s rough around the edges – it’s messy, but it looks realistic. It looks more authentic that way.”
HC: What made you decide on attending MNSU?
LS: “Ease and being able to live at home for a while since I am from Mankato, also save money. I also have contacts on the Mankato campus, so if I needed help with finding a job or something, I would be able to get help.”
HC: When did you learn about your talents and abilities of art?
LS: “Oh, probably kindergarten. My mom realized it and she put me in every possible art class that she could – even the extracurricular classes over the summer, which I did not appreciate.”
HC: When you think of your dream job, what comes to mind?
LS: “I want to work for Pixar, the CW, Warner Brothers, or something along those lines.”
HC: If your life were to be made into a movie, who would play you, and what would the title be?
LS: “I frickin’ want Miley Cyrus to play me, and the title would be uh, ‘Headed Straight out of Mankato,’ because I need to get out of Mankato.”
HC: What is the craziest experience you have ever endured so far in your life?
LS: “Meeting Brett for the first time, thinking we would be nothing more than friends, has turned into a year. He is the first and probably last guy I have ever lived with. It’s the most open and honest relationship I have ever been in. He’s the type of guy that teaches you all about life and you actually learn from it – he’s really smart. So, the craziest experience I have endured so far would be falling in love with him.”
HC: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
LS: “Back to Hawaii, because out of the places I have traveled, it is the one place that has stuck with me. It’s a great atmosphere.”
HC: What is one of your proudest moments?
LS: “For myself, personally recognizing that I could do something with my art.”
