Five Fashion Pieces to Add to Your Closet as Inspired by London

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

I’ve been in London for about a month now and one of the main things I have fallen in love with here is the fashion. People dress so sophisticated while putting their own spin on style and honestly I’ve been inspired. Here are some of the top pieces you can get to not only look like a Londoner but increase your style.

  1. Leather jacket

You can never, and I mean never, go wrong with a classic leather jacket. I would bet that nearly every person living in London has a leather jacket in their closet. The great thing about leather jackets is that you can dress them up or down. Just running to the store but it’s chilly out? Leather jacket. Hitting the clubs on a Saturday night in December? Leather jacket. It is a truly versatile piece that never goes out of style. To spice things up even more, try a colored leather like red or blue!

  1. Black skinny jeans

Black skinny jeans have been the glue holding all my outfits together since I got to London. They are such a staple in the style world here because, like leather jackets, you can dress them up or down. Not to mention black goes with everything! Wear them with nice blouses, graphic tee’s or sweaters and pair them with a pair of Dr. Martens, printed booties or Nike Air Force 1’s and you have an outfit made. Add a printed belt to boost your look!

  1. Printed midi skirts

When I first arrived in London I saw printed midi skirts EVERYWHERE. And I fell in love. The best thing about midi skirts is that you can wear them all year long because they cover more skin. Plus, there are endless styles! From floral to animal to geometric prints, there is guaranteed to be a look for every occasion. For a different look, try a leather skirt or pair with a cute pair of tights!

  1. Heeled booties

Heeled booties are another item that have held my outfits together and I am so glad I found a pair that are comfortable and stylish. Booties in general can tie any outfit together and dress it up fast, but having a small heel on them will make you feel even more confident. Getting a pair that can be versatile and paired with every outfit like black leather ones is always a safe bet, but if you are feeling more adventurous try an animal or snake skin print! Just make sure you can walk in them for hours on end, especially on the cobblestone sidewalks of London!

Comfortable walking shoes

The people of London love their sneakers, which makes sense since the majority of them don’t own cars so they walk nearly everywhere they go, and if they aren’t walking to their destination, they are walking to a bus stop or the tube to get there. With this being the case having good walking shoes is vital. They wear them not only to go to the gym but with their work attire, dresses, skirts and pretty much every other kind of outfit. So, whether it’s for a Saturday afternoon stroll to Borough Market or a bustling Tuesday to the office, having comfortable shoes is a must. Getting a neutral pair to go with any outfit is always a great option, I have seen a lot of all-white or all-black sneakers here. But if you want to live boldly, try a pop of color!

London has always been considered ahead of its time when it comes to fashion. Getting to experience it firsthand has been so much fun and I can’t wait to see how it progresses. So, if you want to spice up your look or try new styles, give these a whirl and enjoy how it changes your views on fashion!
