Everyone has a dream. Whether you label it as a dream, goal, or aspiration, they all relate to the same commonality among humans. We all want something more. We all want to be a part of something greater than ourselves. As you get older, the more dreams you have and the more things you want to achieve in your life. Sometimes we have a passionate dream and don’t know how to make it a reality. I think people go one of two ways in relation to their dreams: they encourage it or they reject it. Dreams can be looked upon as fruitless or naive; however, I think with a healthy mindset, it is what keeps us going. But how can you work towards reaching that desired dream and making it an actuality? I have heard many different answers to this question but I want to share what works best for me and how I see my dreams as a motivation instead of a hindrance.

Ever since I was a little girl I had big dreams. My dreams now are bigger than ever. Of course as I grew up my ambitions changed regarding description, but the level of enthusiasm and hunger did not alter. I did question my ability to catch my dreams, but the amount of determination I had overshadowed everything. When you ask someone how to follow your dreams while simultaneously being practical, some might answer with “give 110% a 100% of the time,” “make a list of smaller goals to better your chance of reaching the ultimate goal,” “make connections,” and  “don’t be afraid to fail.” I agree with all of these and I don’t think there is only one way to make a dream come true. If I had to choose only one, it would be to visualize. By visualizing, I mean to imagine yourself living your dream and really seeing yourself achieve all the things you’ve ever wanted. Put yourself there. It might sound childish, like your playing house with your imaginary friends, but try it anyway.

When you visualize something, it becomes so much more personal. If you see something so clearly in your mind, you will make such an effort to get other people to see it too. Once you let yourself be open to picturing the fulfillment of your dreams, even if it’s just in your mind for now, you will be more in tune with the amount of potential you have. No matter how magnificent your dreams may be, you are still you, and you shouldn’t hide that. Dreams allow you to search for more because you know you have more to give. Don’t get me wrong, I get scared and worried that my dreams will never come to fruition the ways they have in my mind, but I’m still going to try. The commitment I have to my aspirations and clear visualizations in my imagination don’t make me naive or starry-eyed, they make me motivated, excited, and passionate, despite my fears of the future. There is a quote that I think about a lot. I think it symbolizes how I want to live my life and how I want to chase my dreams.

It reads…

“Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground” -Theodore Roosevelt

Hi beautiful people! I’m currently following my dreams as an Acting major at Marymount Manhattan College.
