- You know what Soho, Noho, Tribeca and Nolita stand for. And that they’re also written properly like this: SoHo, NoHo, TriBeCa, NoLIta.
- For the price of your rent, you could own a castle in Europe. NO JOKE.
- You walk faster than most people run.
- You properly pronounce Houston Street (no it’s not like Texas.)
- Paying $15-$20 per drink seems normal to you. Same thing goes for a movie theater ticket.
- You’re used to seeing dancers/singers/performers on the train and you already know what will happen next when you hear, “It’s showtime!”
- All the noise, all the people, all the traffic – doesn’t phase you whatsoever.
- Pizza. Pretzels. Bagels. NY style. Nuff said!
- Yes, you wear LOTS of black. Often all black, from head to toe. New York chic.
- You know the trains and their routes like the back of your hand.
- Everybody assumes you’re mean because you live in NYC. When you go out of state, people will often ask you, “Is it true? Are the people there actually mean?”
- You root for New York teams. (Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers.)
- Will always possess a great appreciation for the arts (Broadway shows, concerts, film festivals, fashion, museums, architecture, food, so forth.)
- You’re always busy and have a hectic schedule. (Stressed. Depressed. But well dressed.)
- When finding your destination, you don’t usually use the building numbers in an address. You just refer to the cross streets. The avenue and street number only, please.
- You can successfully hail a cab. No really, you’re a professional.
- There are certain hair salons and nail salons that you go to religiously, and you won’t frequent any other places.
- You see movies and television shows being filmed all over the boroughs constantly.
- You know you have the best restaurants, bars and nightlife in the whole wide world.
- Friends, Sex and the City, Gossip Girl, The King of Queens, Seinfeld, to name a few are your life. Seriously.
- When you watch movies and shows that are set in New York, you think to yourself while viewing, “Hey, I’ve seen that! I’ve walked by those areas! I’ve been to those spots!”
- You refer to Manhattan as ‘The City.’
- At some point you’ve almost been run over in traffic, survive in style, and give the driver ‘the look’ because it’s obviously not your fault.
- Everybody works hard, has high standards and expensive taste. All of the people you know your age, are not getting married or having babies – they are getting degrees and having careers.
- If you’re in Staten Island, it’s probably at the Staten Island Mall or the restaurants Beso and Goodfellas.
- People say you have an accent. You’re like, “What accent? I don’t have one.”
- It’s not being rude, it’s called not having tolerance or patience for people who are clueless and preventing yourself from accomplishing your tasks. Because everything is fast-paced and you have to be on the top of your game at all times.
- You go to Duane Reade for everything. You’re also mad if one isn’t 24 hours, because that is just plain unacceptable.
- Best yet, by living here, you have so many wonderful opportunities, extensive access to culture and once in a lifetime experiences. You can be whoever you want to be.
At times it may get chaotic, but you love living here and wouldn’t have it any other way. You don’t understand how someone could not want to live here, it’s that amazing. Though it’s fun to go on vacations and travel, you always come back home to beloved and beautiful, New York City!
