Maria Gracia ’14

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

– Name, graduation year, major/minor, current city of residence: Maria Gracia, 2014, Major: Communication Arts, Minor: Business Management, Astoria, NY

– What was your experience like at MMC? It went by so fast! I was actually a transfer student and accelerated my curriculum right when I got to MMC, so I graduated in my junior year (2nd year at MMC) of college.

– What clubs/activities/internships were you involved in while at Marymount? While at Marymount, I was a work study for Career Services, so I spent most of my free time there in between classes. I also was a international student ambassador and helped out a bit with the incoming international students (the international office was shared with Career Services – so it made sense!) Beyond that, I spent every semester interning. One of my favorite internships was spent at Fueled By Ramen at Atlantic Records during my second semester at Marymount. I had the opportunity to learn a ton and work with artists that I grew up idolizing on that roster, and that internship specifically prepared me for the job I currently hold. I also spent my last semester at Marymount interning at Columbia Records in their strategic marketing department and found a true passion for brand partnerships there.

– What is a favorite memory from your time at Marymount?Probably running around from my internships to class to work study to class. I made sure I never had a free second, which kept me busy! I never wanted to be bored during any of my classes or in between classes, so it was stressful, yet fun all the time. My comm. classes always came full circle when tying it back to what I ultimately wanted to do after graduation. I’m glad Marymount gave me the opportunity to intern as much as possible. All my experiences were valuable!

– What are you up to now?I’m currently a marketing coordinator at Epic Records at Sony! I assist two marketing managers and work with two artist rosters including Meghan Trainor, Travi$ Scott, Future, Kat Dahlia, Casey Veggies, Paloma Faith, Paul Rey, and many more. It was a total dream for me to work my first pop record (Meghan) from start to finish and have it land #1 on the charts after its first week.

– What advice do you have for current or prospective Marymount students?Keep working extra hard and meet as many people as possible! Interning really helped me a ton and networking is super important (especially if you want to work in the entertainment industry). Be nice to everyone, because you never know where they might end up. If there’s one thing I learned – it’s that this world is way too small!

Pick One!Ice cream or fro yo? Ice cream.Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks? Starbucks! I literally go to the Starbucks in the Sony building every morning.Stay up late or wake up early?
