I Tried Jeffree Star Cosmetics for the First Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

As a makeup lover, I couldn’t help but hear all the hype around Jeffree Star Cosmetics. All across the YouTube and Instagram universe Jeffree Star’s name kept on popping up. Popular beauty YouTubers such as Tati, Manny MUA, Jaclyn Hill, and Nikkie Tutorials gave Jeffree’s products rave reviews and continue to use these products over and over again. The fact that Jeffree Star is now a beauty YouTuber himself definitely added to the media hype. All of this made the makeup lover in me way too curious about these products. I held off for a while, however, when it was announced that Jeffree Star Cosmetics would be having a sale on Black Friday, I couldn’t resist any longer.

I wanted to get Jeffree’s most loved products, the cosmetics that were most adored in the media. I bought one of his Velour Liquid Lipsticks in the shade Redrum which is one of his bestsellers. As well as a Skin Frost in the shade Ice Cold, another best seller. Both of these products have been sold out numerous times and are continuously restocked.

I had very high expectations while trying on the liquid lipstick. It is known to be very opaque and long wearing. The first thing I noticed about the product was that it was a bit more liquidy than other liquid lips I had tried before — this makes it just a bit harder to apply. The doe foot applicator holds a lot of product so it’s just a one swipe product to get that opaque lip color. The color itself is a beautiful blue based red that I am now absolutely obsessed with. The other great thing about this product is that it dries fast, but doesn’t make your lips feel dry. This was a relief and something very different from the Ultra Matte Lip by ColourPop, another very popular cosmetic brand. Overall, Jeffree Star’s Velour Liquid Lipstick was in fact a long wear matte that still kept the lips moisturized all while the color remained opaque. Being priced at $18, it’s pretty reasonable for the quality and definitely worth it.

Next I applied the Skin Frost. I used a fan brush to apply the product. My usual highlight that I use is from Becca Cosmetics in either the shade Champagne Pop or Moonstone. I love Becca highlighters, so Jeffree Star had a lot to live up to. The first thing I noticed about Ice Cold was that it had a bit more fallout than my usual Becca Highlight. This isn’t necessarily a con; it just requires me to tap off the excess on my brush a little more than I am used to. And yet, I really enjoyed it. The highlighter was extremely pigmented, but not too pigmented that it wasn’t buildable, that way you can either go for a natural glow or full on blinding highlight. This product was also very blendable which is very important with any face product and Ice Cold looked pretty flawless throughout the whole day. Overall, I loved Ice Cold and will be using this product within my daily makeup routine. The price is $29, which is $10 less than Becca! Definitely a steal on both the price and the quality.

I am extremely impressed with these two products. Both met my very high expectations and I look forward to purchasing more products and new launches to come from this brand. Jeffree Star Cosmetic definitely has my stamp of approval so I recommend that you give these fabulous products a try, too!
