How To Make The Most Of Your Wardrobe: Styling A Black Turtleneck

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

Something that I want to start doing more of is cultivating a collection of versatile, staple pieces in my wardrobe. This winter I’ve been obsessed with wearing my black turtleneck from H&M, and I’ve managed to style it multiple ways. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Paired With: Geometric Skirt, Tights & Heeled Boots

This outfit has gotten me through multiple events in the city as well as the holiday season. I love this look because of how versatile it is. From class presentations to meeting up with friends for dinner, this outfit is foolproof. The black and white checked skirt is from Forever 21, with opaque stockings and heeled boots from H&M.

2. Paired With: Striped Trousers & Heeled Boots

Sticking with the black and white theme, I paired the same turtleneck with black and white striped trousers, and the same black heeled boots as before, making the entire outfit from H&M. I love the way these trousers look with this top because the loose fit of the pants balances out the tighter fit of the turtleneck. Add the right accessories, and this outfit will make you look effortlessly chic.

3. Paired With: Black Skinny Jeans, Grey Checked Gilet & Flat Boots

You know when you love an outfit so much that you’re excited to get dressed the next morning? For me, this is one of those outfits. I purchased this grey, checked gilet from Target in December, and when trying it on in the store, I immediately had this outfit in mind. It’s the perfect everyday look- from getting coffee with friends to running around the city doing errands. Here I’ve paired it with my black skinny jeans from American Eagle, and flat, black boots from Burlington to make it more casual, but you can always switch them out for heeled boots to elevate the look. Pair it with your everyday purse and a baker boy hat, and you’re ready to go!

4. Paired With: Blue Skinny Jeans, Leather Jacket & Sneakers

This turtleneck is perfect for layering under jackets, my favorite being my leather jacket from T.J. Maxx. To switch things up, I decided to pair it with my blue jeans from Macy’s and my Adidas Superstars. This is the perfect everyday outfit for going to class and looking stylish, while staying comfortable all day.

I hope that I’ve given you some style inspiration, exemplified just how easy it is wear the same piece for multiple occasions, and ultimately, helped you to make the most of your wardrobe with simple pieces. If you have any styling tips, let us know on Twitter and Instagram!
