These past couple of weeks, Kesha has seen a lot of media attention over her legal battle with her producer, Dr. Luke. Kesha took to court to break free from her contract with Dr. Luke after allegedly raping her. This issue isn’t just a current battle for Kesha, she filed a lawsuit against him in 2014 and has seen no support from the court.

The New York Supreme Court ruled that Kesha is still under her contract, meaning that she cannot work with any other labels. Even Sony reported that they are not legally allowed to cancel Kesha’s contract. The consequence of this ruling received much attention and most notably the hashtag #FreeKesha has been trending on Twitter and other forms of social media.

Many celebrities have given their support to the singer, including Taylor Swift (helping her out financially), Demi Lovato, Lady GaGa, and Lena Dunham just to name a few:

Fans have also given their support, and Kesha is grateful for it. She took to Instagram to say thank you to her fans and it’s touching to know how many ladies are helping her through this battle.

With cases like these, the support for someone who has experienced sexual assault is crucial. Instead of debating whether or not he did it, the focus in the media has been about Kesha getting out of her contract. #FreeKesha is about support for the restraints that she has – being forced to work with someone she feels uncomfortable with.

#FreeKesha stands for justice and breaking free from her assaulter. Glad to see that coverage is about that and not an opportunity to question the legitimacy of the case.
