What Does Your Hair Color Say About You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

What made you dye your hair that offbeat color? Maybe you were just bored, or maybe you like the reactions you get. What if you subconsciously decided to express personality traits you never noticed about yourself? Why am I turning hair color into a conspiracy theory? I have to question everything, and I’m not sure why, but maybe my hair can tell me.

Let’s get into some color psychology!

Orange – Wisely instinctive. You like to look at things from all angles, but you’re not afraid to leap when it’s time!

  • Enthusiastic
  • Thrill seeker
  • Optimistic
  • Pushes boundaries

Blue – Confidently reserved. You value peace above all other things without fear of coming off as aloof or flighty.

  • Integrity
  • Giver
  • Selective in developing relationships
  • Pursues spiritual knowledge

Purple – Balanced between escapism and practicality. You live life in a constant state of meditation and spontaneous, creative pursuit.

  • Leader without ego
  • “Out there” in personality and style
  • Mysterious
  • Loves unconditionally

Pink – Nurturing and assertive.  You manage your emotions well, and you have a calming effect on others.

  • Always looking at the bright side
  • Good listener
  • Empath
  • Rides the waves of emotion with ease

Red – Running on passion alone. You inspire others to never give up because you always have something to show for it.

  • High on life
  • Ambitious
  • Acts on emotions
  • Life of the party

Yellow – Extroverted intellectual. Even the smallest occurrence can spark an entire universe of ideas in your head.

  • Lives for stimulating discussion
  • Up for a challenge
  • Practical
  • Highly critical of self and others

Black – Control freak. You are most comfortable keeping an air of mystery about yourself.

  • Intimidating
  • Secretive
  • Hides vulnerabilities
  • Keeps a guard up with most people

Green – Mediator. You don’t abandon what is right or wrong no matter how long you’ve known someone.

  • Sustains endurance in challenging times
  • Humanitarian
  • Successful in financial matters
  • Requires a peaceful home and heart

Brown – Perfectly imperfect. You are down to earth and won’t put on a show to impress anyone.

  • Thinks through emotions
  • Cute, yet comfortable style
  • Sophisticated
  • Strives for stability

Of course there are negative meanings associated with these colors, but reading positive things about yourself inspires action towards growth.

Now you know everything there is to know about someone just by looking at their hair: their favorite food, favorite music, most embarrassing moment . . . No need to get to know them – It’s all in the strands!
