Wondering how to start the semester on the right foot? No worries, I’m here to help!

Reflect on the previous semester

Recognizing your strengths and weaknesses from the semester prior is the best way to prepare for the upcoming semester. Ask yourself where you could have improved as well as what worked well for you. Don’t be afraid to try new study techniques!

Get a planner that works for you

There are so many options for planners these days, whether it be a digital or physical edition. You are sure to find one that tailors to your needs. Just make sure you look through your planner beforehand to confirm there is enough space for everything you wish to use it for, such as meal planning and habit tracking. A bullet journal may be a good option, as well, if you want to personalize it more.

Dedicate some time to cleaning your study and work areas

You will thank yourself for this later in the semester. Your studying environment definitely has an impact on your studying. If your work area is cluttered, you might become distracted and unable to focus on your assignments.

Take advantage of syllabus week

Make sure you read through the syllabus for all of your classes as soon as possible. Not only will this help prevent misunderstandings later on, but you will also be able to plan out your semester as most professors have a tentative schedule of due dates for assignments and exams. Writing these down will help you avoid procrastination.

Take a moment to relax

The arrival of a new semester can be stressful, but it is important to remember all of the new opportunities that will come your way. Be sure to take care of yourself throughout the academic session, and never feel ashamed for putting your well-being first.

Hi! I'm Olivia, and I'm a sophomore at Mizzou studying Atmospheric Science. I spend my free time listening to music (Glass Animals are my favorite), watching documentaries, looking at the sky, and playing Pokemon Go, Fortnite, and The Sims!
