Styling troubles? Here’s how to fix it.
The transition from winter’s below-freezing temperatures to spring’s warming temperatures brings a transition to our wardrobes, too. We trade our puffer jackets for lightweight rain jackets and our thick tops for thinner, more breathable tops. Personally, when entering a new season, it’s difficult for me to get visions for cute outfits. I always end up straying back to the basics.
In order to get out of my seasonal “outfit slump,” I look for inspiration on apps such as Pinterest, TikTok and Instagram. There, I find fashion “hacks” that upgrade my wardrobe. These “hacks” are super easy. I was able to do them myself, even though I don’t consider myself super crafty. Here are some of my favorite spring fashion hacks I found.
DENIM DO-OVERS
When it comes to jeans, I feel like I always struggle finding the right fit, especially in the waist. Being between sizes is annoying, but there’s an easy fix for that. Instead of dealing with a chunky belt to adjust the waist size on a pair of jeans, I’ve learned that using a string of ribbon – any craft ribbon will work – is a better alternative. All you have to do is cut a piece of ribbon long enough to go around the belt loops of the jeans. Then, to secure it, you can either pin it in the back or tie it on the side.
This is a cute way to liven up your jeans, especially when they’re paired with a fun, spring-colored ribbon.
If it’s not the fit of the waist I have trouble with, it’s the actual length of the jeans. I am in love with the resurfaced trend of wearing flip-flops with a good pair of denim. It’s the perfect outfit to transition from spring to summer. However, I have been hesitant to participate in this trend because my jeans are all too long and sometimes drag on the floor. This is annoying because I don’t want to pay to get them hemmed. If you’re also looking to save a dime on your jeans, you can cuff them. Cuffing jeans is quick and easy, and it looks good with any style of denim. My personal favorite style to do this hack on is wide leg.
This allows for the flip-flops to be shown, which is perfect for those warmer spring days.
CARDIGAN CREATIONS
One of my favorite pieces to pair with most of my outfits for the spring is a cardigan. They’re perfect for those warmer, but still a little chilly, days. They’re super easy, and I believe anyone can have a creative vision with them.
My favorite cardigan look is the classy, sporty look of tying it over the shoulders. It keeps your shoulders warm and takes your outfit to the next level. However, whenever I try to achieve this “preppy” look, I always have trouble with the cardigan staying tied. If you also have this issue, here’s how to fix it.
This hack can be done with any cardigan style, but it may be easier if you have a full-length style instead of a cropped style.
Instead of tying the sleeves together like you normally would, there’s a better method you can use. The first step to this method is starting by twisting the two cardigan sleeves together once. Next, take one sleeve and pull it through the hole created by the twist. Finally, pull the sleeve to tighten.
This gives the sweater or cardigan a less bulky look, and it also ensures that the cardigan stays tied around your shoulders all day during those out-and-about activities.
Another fun way to wear a cardigan is by utilizing the “shrug method.” I never knew this was achievable with a cardigan until recently. It’s super quick and easy, and can be accomplished in three steps: first, take the top button on one side to the bottom hole on the other side, then button the cardigan behind your back. Next, take the last button and the top hole and also button it behind your back. Finally, fold in the bottom part so none of the cardigan is sticking out in the back.
This gives the look of a bolero, and is super cute paired with a crop top.
Simple hacks such as these can elevate your outfits and keep you looking stylish all year-round. It really only takes one simple fix to completely change your look.
Use this as a guide to transform your clothes, especially if you’re in a time crunch. There are endless opportunities when it comes to styling clothes, despite the constant weather change throughout the different seasons.
