Seasons are Changing and so Should You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

In morphing from green leaves to fire red trees, it’s clear the seasons are changing. But that’s not the only thing that can undergo a transformation. It’s now the time of year to tone down those highlights, get out those boots, and put away that darling summer sundress. Don’t fall behind on this year’s fall changes and trends!

NAILS
The latest collection from OPI has fall-lovers in awe. Germany 2012 is not your typical collection of fall tones. Colors like “Berlin There Done That” and “Schnapps Out of It” are for the safer, more subtle fashionistas who are trendy but don’t want to make a huge statement. But don’t worry, the collection also includes colors to please those at the other end of the spectrum. Trendsetter fashionistas will love the purples and reds that OPI has this fall. “Deutsch You Want Me Baby” and “German-icure” are only two of the many options that OPI is attracting girls with this season.

HAIR
Don’t be afraid to change it up and tone it down. Your beige-blonde highlights are adorable but don’t go with the color scheme of fall. They’re too light, bright and over done. Talk to your stylist about shades of brown such as chocolates, chestnuts, and dark golden browns. Depending on your skin tone, these colors can make you look warmer or bolder, but your stylist should be able to tell you what will complement you the best. Take for example these stunning celebs that we watched go from blonde to brunette.

SKIN
As the climate gets colder, our skin tends to change. We become less oily and more dry. This may call for a change in your daily moisturizer. Most skin care lines have products specifically for dry skin. If you’re skin becomes flaky or feels tight even after moisturizing, switch to a different moisturizer instead of applying more of what you have. Too much moisturizer can lead to clogged pores and acne.

ATTIRE
We’re going from crop tops to oversized sweaters and nobody is complaining. Go for that adorable knit sweater on the mannequin, but go up a size. The bigger it is, they cozier you’ll be. And wouldn’t you much rather snuggle up in a cute sweater than a Snuggie? Go for bohemian prints and contrasting colors. The cute, stylish sweaters are featured in this spread of Elle. Also, popular colors to invest in this fall are the rich, bold shades of red, wine, and plum. These colors were seen on the runways during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in September. Last but not least, we know you’ve been waiting to rock those fall riding boots again; It’s time doll. MAKEUP
This season it’s all about bold lips and futuristic eyes. Switch out your hot pink gloss for a dark matte red lipstick. Keep in mind that everyone has their own unique shade of red and it’s important to test the shades before you buy. Also, to keep your lips moisturized, apply a lip balm before your stick and if you can, find a creamy-textured lipstick. The lips may be easier to wear than the futuristic eyes but there is no fear in trying, and it’s fun to play with make up anyway! Check out this slideshow in Harper’s Bazaar for examples and ideas!
