In this day and age, who has time to stop and watch the news, read a book or catch a movie? Certainly not me. Podcasts are the new radio. They are perfect for staying educated on current events, getting advice and tips, or just having something entertaining to listen to on your drive home.

Here are some podcasts that you need to check out ASAP:

 

   1.  The Morning Toast

Jackie Oshry and comedian Claudia Oshry are sisters who grew up in New York City and host The Morning Toast together in their high-rise studio. For those who love pop culture and keeping up with celebrity gossip, this is the podcast for you. The Oshry sisters come together every weekday to deliver the five most important stories of the day, known as the “fast-five stories that you need to know before you wake up and take a bite out of your morning toast.” They also have a TV recap segment, where they discuss their opinions on shows, such as The Real Housewives, The Kardashians, Selling Sunset and other pertinent television series.

   2.  Crying In Public

Five 20-something, New York University students host the Crying In Public podcast, which is “just another” podcast about dating in NYC, navigating the city and being college students in the time of a pandemic. Hosts Claudia, Isha, Sarah, Sophia and Sydni meet weekly and discuss the drama and adventures they experience daily while living in the big apple.

   3.  The Real Reel

YouTuber and influencer, Natalie Barbu, is the host of The Real Reel podcast, where she interviews real people and discusses their careers and how they got to be where they are now. She has interviewed many individuals, such as the assistant editor-in-chief of Cosmo Magazine, Samantha Feher, and the co-founder of Kopari Beauty, Gigi Goldman. The podcast’s catchphrase is, “Instagram may be a highlight reel – but this is the real reel.”

   4.  The Daily

Hosted by Michael Barbaro, The Daily is a podcast by the New York Times and it releases a new episode every weekday. The podcast explores important topics currently in the news, and Barbaro is frequently accompanied by other New York Times journalists. Episodes are about 20 minutes long and are released before 6 a.m., designed for those wanting to listen to the news on their way to work in the mornings.

   5.  This American Life

Winning all the major broadcasting awards, This American Life is a podcast hosted by author and radio personality, Ira Glass. The 25-year-old radio show is described as, “An entertaining kind of journalism that’s built around plot.” Glass interviews individuals and shares their intriguing stories through the This American Life podcast.

   6.  The Snatchelor

Margo Oshry (yes, sister of Jackie and Claudia Oshry!) hosts The Snatchelor, a podcast for those who love The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and want to hear all of the tea the show might not cover. During The Bachelor/Bachelorette season, the 23-year-old posts weekly podcasts recapping the show and giving her opinion on the drama. She has also had special guests come on the show, including Nick Vial, her roommate Nicole and her sisters, Jackie and Claudia.

   7.  Girls Gotta Eat

Featured in Cosmopolitan, GQ, Elle, BuzzFeed and more, the Girls Gotta Eat podcast discusses everything from dating and relationships to careers and finances. Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine host the comedy show and often bring guests, such as therapists, authors and comedians to join them. This is the type of podcast for those who want a lighthearted and humorous listen, with real-life tips and advice.

   8.  My Favorite Murder

For those who can’t get enough of Criminal Minds, Law & Order or NCIS, this podcast is for you! Hosted by comedian Karen Kilgariff and television host Georgia Hardstark, My Favorite Murder is a true crime comedy podcast that explores real crime stories about hometowns that have been sent in by friends and fans. Since debuting their podcast in 2016, Kilgariff and Hardstark have written a book titled, ‘Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-to Guide,’ and their podcast has hit #1 on iTunes.
