With fall in full swing and Halloween coming up, I have decided to rewatch some of my favorite shows and movies to get me into the spirit. From dramatic Thanksgiving dinners to spooky mysteries to solve, here is what I will be rewatching this fall (and I recommend you do too).

“Gilmore Girls”

Gilmore Girls walking through Fall Festival
Warner Bros. Television

“Gilmore Girls” is the perfect fall show, taking place in a small town where everyone knows everyone. Some episodes I will be watching specifically for the fall season are:

  • Season 1, Episode 7: Rory has her first kiss and the town is perfectly set for fall, with color-changing leaves and pumpkins
  • Season 3, Episode 9: Rory and Lorelai have to figure out how to attend their excessive amount of Thanksgiving dinners
  • Season 5, Episode 17: Rory has her first costume party at Yale

“The Nightmare Before Christmas”

This is one of my favorite Halloween movies and reminds me a lot of my childhood. It’s always fun to have this on while doing fun fall activities such as cookie making or pumpkin carving.

“Friends”

Similar to “Gilmore Girls,” “Friends” is another show I love to rewatch, especially in the fall. Not every “Friends” episode gives fall vibes, but here are some favorites of mine that do:

  • Season 5, Episode 8: Thanksgiving flashbacks of all the friends, where viewers learn some backstory of all the characters’ relationships
  • Season 3, Episode 9: Thanksgiving turns into a football game, focusing on the sibling feud between Monica and Ross
  • Season 8, Episode 6: Monica and Chandler throw a Halloween party while Phoebe discovers her sister is lying

“The O.C.”

While “The O.C.” is well-known for “Chrismukkah” episodes, there are some early fall episodes that can’t be overlooked.

  • Season 1, Episode 11: While Ryan and Marissa go to Chino, the Cohens host a very chaotic yet entertaining family dinner
  • Season 1, Episode 12: Deals with the aftermath of the Cohen’s Thanksgiving, lots of drama and lots of fun
  • Season 4, Episode 3: A very emotional episode combining the struggles of Ryan, Julie and Summer

“Twilight”

I have seen all the “Twilight” movies more times than I can count. I mean, what else says fall more than vampires, gloomy weather and a love story?

“Harry Potter”

Another group of movies that I have seen countless times is “Harry Potter”. These movies have the perfect amount of beautiful scenery, wizards and fantasy to get you in  the mood for fall.

“The Vampire Diaries”

Similar to the “Twilight” movies, “The Vampire Diaries” combines vampires, love stories and eerie storylines to prepare viewers for fall.

  • Season 1, Episode 7: A Halloween party and powers being unleashed. What could possibly be more fall?
  • Season 2, Episode 7: Masquerade balls, doppelgangers and a return set the stage for fall.
  • Season 3, Episode 9: Even more characters have appeared in the show by Season 3, changing homecoming to a night of battles and plot twists

“Pretty Little Liars”

This show about a mystery of a missing girl paired along with teenage drama obviously has some great fall episodes to watch.

  • Season 1, Episode 1: Opens up the show with the mysterious disappearance of Alison
  • Season 2, Episode 13: A flashback episode that covers Halloween before Alison disappeared
  • Season 4, Episode 19: A fun (but still spooky) episode that takes on a film noir 1940s vibe

“Gossip Girl”

I think “Gossip Girl” has some very famous Thanksgiving episodes that are well-known for its iconic Thanksgiving fights a side of family drama.

  • Season 1, Episode 9: The Humphreys’ Thanksgiving dinner gets some extra guests who come with some unwelcome baggage
  • Season 3, Episode 11: Lily and Rufus host Thanksgiving not knowing just how many secrets will come out
  • Season 6, Episode 8: Another group gathering filled with drama on Thanksgiving, except with a big revenge plot in the works

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

Shocking I know… I am recommending another show with vampires for fall. But this time, the main character’s goal is tasked with ending vampires instead of falling in love with them.

  • Season 2, Episode 6: The literal title of the episode is Halloween… need I say more?
  • Season 4, Episode 4: Buffy and her friends have a haunted house adventure, but in a frat
  • Season 6, Episode 6: On Halloween, Dawn sneaks out, leading to more trouble and magic

Whatever you are rewatching this fall, I hoped this list gave you a variety of ideas. From 2000s dramas to spooky nostalgia, there is something for everyone.
