Meet our latest campus cutie, Matei Stefanescu! He’s a journalism major hoping to make his way in the advertising world. He also enjoys talking in class, antiquing and ordering crazy-sound items off the menu. Keep reading to find out more about Matei!

Year at Mizzou: Junior

Major: Strategic Communications in the Journalism School. It’s a really great school and my classmates are really smart and motivated.

Campus involvement: No clubs right now but I try and promote a friendly MU environment. I say hi to a lot of random people on campus and try and be really friendly to anyone who seems like they’d want to talk. I’ve been asked “Are you trying to sell me something?” a few times before.

Favorite Mizzou memory: I didn’t do this but a friend I know might have snuck into the football stadium after dark and kissed the fifty yard line. But that clearly wasn’t me so I still have two years left to make a favorite memory.

Dream job: Getting high up in the advertising industry and contributing to our world in a positive way.

Relationship status: Single and ready to mingle (I hope my girlfriend doesn’t read this). Just kidding, I’m single.

What do you look for in a girl (turn ons/offs)? Looks are a big part of it, I’m not going to lie. But a girl with swagger, intelligence and a life motto of “why not” are huge bonuses. Humor, Latino dance music dancing ability, sincerity and confidence are also great virtues. I really wish looks didn’t matter but at least for me they do. But by being believing in your own self-worth you effectively make yourself more attractive.

Ideal date: I’ve had two really great ones. One was going downtown for sushi where a girl and I ordered the craziest sounding thing on the menu and it ended up tasting amazing and another where I met someone an hour away from Columbia and we got coffee in a small town and explored the area and it was really romantic, like I picked her a flower and we just got along really well. Yeah I picked her a flower, sue me.

Most awkward/embarrassing moment: I talk a lot in my classes so people often come up to me and say “Hey, you’re that guy who talks a lot in my class.” So that’s a pretty embarrassing way to constantly be greeted.

First thing on your bucket list: I want to visit small town antique shops soon by myself and spend a day shopping there and exploring the town and look through old advertisements they have. It’s not a crazy bucket list goal but that’s OK because I know I’ll be able to do it then.

Words to live by: “I’ll be dead one day.” I seriously say this to myself whenever I feel shy or awkward and it sort of grounds me and let’s me be myself.
