There she is roaring! Maikieta Brantley brought out the tiger in the Miss Boone County competition as she won the crown in 2012. Now she will compete in June for the title of Miss Missouri. Maikieta is a senior accounting major and member of many organizations. Even more important to her is giving back to the Columbia community that she thrived off of while at Mizzou. We’re tigers; you can’t be afraid to take chances, and by looking at Maikieta, we can see it will all pay off!
Her Campus Mizzou: What other organizations have you participated on?
Maikieta Brantley: Dream Outside the Box Delta Sigma Theta, Epsilon Psi, Mortar Board, Black Pre Law Students Association, National Association of Black Accountants
HCM: How did you get involved with your organizations?
MB: I competed last September for the local title of Miss Boone County and will compete for Miss Missouri in June. I have been involved in Dream Outside the Box since my freshman year Fall 2009.
HCM: What has been your favorite part about the organizations?Â
MB: As Miss Boone County, I love when little girls assume I am Princess Tiana, and with Dream Outside the Box, it’s the rewarding feeling of giving back.
HCM: How did you attain your leadership roles?
MB: I went out on a limb and got involved!
HCM: What will you miss most about Columbia when you leave?
MB: I will miss living with or within five minutes of the women who have become my sisters/best friends.
HCM: How has your participation in these orgs helped your career path?
MB: Although I am an accounting major, I think my involvement has enhanced my leadership and people skills that I apply now during my internship at a Big Four Accounting Firm.
HCM: What do you think is your mark you will leave on Mizzou?
MB: I think the success of the organizations I’m involved in will be how I will leave my mark. I hope to come back and see that all organizations I have been involved in are thriving.
HCM: Where do you think an incoming Mizzou student should reach out to first on campus?
MB: I think finding a volunteer oriented organization is key. You then have the ability to get to know people who are kind and compassionate but from all walks of life.
HCM: Do you really consider yourself a campus celeb?
MB: Not at all, I am student just like the next girl who just wants to be Miss America one day.
