I don’t know about you all, but I’m dreading the next week of finals more than ever before.  Here’s my survival guide for the next two weeks of misery:

10 things I don’t think I would survive finals without:

1. JaRule Pandora – Best Pandora station EVER, no contest.

2. Diet Dr. Pepper- I am a certified diet soda addict, and DDP has always been my beverage of choice.

3. Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn- Relatively low cal, and it always hits the spot late at night.

4. Yoga pants- Enough said.

5. Shampoo/Deodorant- It’s amazing how much more focused you can be if you look and feel good.

6. Mizzou snuggie – Don’t be alarmed if you see me hiding out in Club E wearing this.

7. Ugg slippers- The rubber soles make them the perfect combination of real shoes and comfy slippers.

8. Good Earphones—The bookstore sells some that block out all sound for around $7.99.

9. Extra Polar Ice— My favorite gum flavor ever. I don’t know if that theory about  how chewing gum while you study and then chewing the same kind during the test helps your recall is true or not, but I’m willing to try!

10. CHRISTMAS MUSIC—N’sync’s Home for Christmas album, specifically. The holiday music helps me to remember what is right around the corner after these awful few weeks: the most wonderful time of the year!

Also, because this is my seventh year of final exams, I thought I would share the three biggest pieces of advice I’ve learned through the years:

MY THREE BIG FINALS RULES:

1. Don’t forget to workout! Although it often seems impossible to fit the gym in during these busy weeks, I would argue that it’s nearly as important as studying. It is an excellent study break—it’s productive, gives you energy, relieves stress, and is a nice alternative to turning to fattening finals snacks to break up the hours spent with your textbooks.

2. Pick two subjects and rotate. This is essential for me. Each day of finals week, I pick 2 classes/subjects and rotate every couple of hours. Maybe I just have a short attention span, but 6 hours of accounting and 6 hours of medieval history sounds much more appealing to me than 12 hours of balance sheets followed by 12 hours of Charlemagne the next day.

3. Have specific goals. I always find that I’m much more focused and much more successful if I have a specific goal in mind. It’s never too late to set a goal for this semester’s GPA!

Good luck girls! I know you’ll do great!

Katie
