Have The Best Single Ladies V-Day Yet!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.
Let’s be honest: who doesn’t sometimes cringe when they walk into a store and see Valentine’s Day decorations everywhere? Even Starbucks cups are supporting the holiday! You’re totally not alone if you think Valentine’s Day is overrated. As busy collegiettes, we don’t always have time for that special valentine. We know all of the mushy commercials, pink and red decorations and couples all over campus can get annoying. But there are great ways to turn Valentine’s Day into a fun event even if you’re single.

Sure, it’s cliché, but a girl doesn’t need a valentine when she has her best girlfriends. Do dinner and a movie with all of your girlies on Tuesday night. Get dressed up and have fun. There’s no pressure to have the perfect romantic evening when you’re with your friends. And chances are your girlfriends want to see The Vow just as badly as you do.

Treat your bestie and have her treat you to a mani-pedi. There’s nothing more relaxing than being pampered on a Tuesday night. A spa night at the Rec works, too.

Since Valentine’s Day falls on a weekday this year, spend your night shopping downtown. We love Britches. The Ninth Street shop probably won’t be very crowded on Valentine’s Day and might even have some sales. Who says you can’t treat yourself to a Valentine’s Day gift!

Go for drinks and small plates with the girls at Room 38. Happy hour is 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We highly recommend the “X-Rated Bellini” to all you 21-year-olds. You might even meet a potential new valentine while out at this sophisticated bar and lounge!

Sing your heart out at Arch & Column Pub, a karaoke bar where you can let loose with your closest friends. Sing silly love songs or something completely different to help take your mind away from any heartache.

Get crafty. There’s nothing more satisfying than making a wonderful product that can be used as a decoration or for a gift you’ve been meaning to get done. Log onto Pinterest, look at those boards you’ve been working on and get your creative juices flowing.

Bake your favorite desserts! Host a get-together or even a cookie exchange. You can decorate themed cookies or make another sweet treat you’ve been wanting to try out. Pig out with the girls. If you’re already working on your spring break diet, then donate them to charity or take them to your local church.

Get a group together and hit the Rec for a unique class. We love Turbokick, Knockout, Zumba and Tiger Tease. Even if you don’t have a Tiger-X pass, you can pay $7 and treat yourself to a fun workout Tuesday night with the girls. You’ll feel great and have a blast.
