Get Outside in CoMo: A List of Places to Go

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Springtime means warm weather and beautiful sunshine. It can be easy to get stuck inside studying or doing homework, but we should all try to get outside and enjoy this beautiful season. Here are some places around Como that you have to visit before the semester ends!

If you want to hike…

The Pinnacles

This 27-acre natural area boasts beautiful rock formations and two creeks. Located north of campus, the Pinnacles is a perfect day trip for a 70-degree Saturday.

If you want to read a book…

Peace Park

Peace Park is located just north of the journalism school and doesn’t require a car to reach. Located right on campus, this green area offers a quiet place to rest during a busy school day. Take a hammock, blanket, or sit on a chair and read that homework assignment you’re dreading. The scenery may make the reading less painful.

Capen

Sitting right on the south edge of campus, Capen Park has beautiful rock formations and a hiking trail. Climb up for a few minutes and enjoy the beautiful view. While sitting atop Capen, it’s hard to believe that it’s so close to campus. Take a blanket, some water, and a good story.

If you want to lay out in the sun…

The Columns

On a sunny day, you can find Mizzou students gathered near the columns. Some play catch, some read, and some tan. Go grab a lemonade and enjoy the beautiful view of Jesse Hall.

If you want to run/ride a bike…

MKT Trail

Go exercise on the nine-mile trail that runs near campus. Hop on at the intersection of Providence and Stewart. The trail is ranked second in the nation for “Best Urban Trail” in the 2016 USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The trail has two fitness stations and goes right by the Martin King Jr. Memorial at Battle Garden.

If you want to stargaze…

Big Tree

It’s exactly what you’d expect. It’s a huge tree. Drive on Providence Road for a LONG time and you’ll come across a huge tree in the middle of a field. We don’t really know who owns the field, but you can always find college students sitting at the tree. Get away from the city lights on a clear night and stargaze here. It’s a perfect destination for a cute date or just a fun night with friends.
