Five Popular Books Coming to Your Screen

It has been a very exciting time for the book girls lately. It has been announced that some of the most popular books are getting adapted into either a movie or a TV show. Whether you are a romance girl, someone who loves their fake-dating trope, a fantasy girl or just looking for your next show to binge, there is a book being adapted that is perfect for you.

“The Love Hypothesis” by Ali Hazelwood

“The Love Hypothesis” is a very popular book on the reading side of TikTok, also known as “BookTok,” and readers are very excited about this movie adaptation. The book follows Olive Smith, a young Ph.D. student at Stanford University that comes up with the plan to begin a fake relationship with the notoriously strict and young professor named Dr. Adam Carlsen, in order to solve personal problems they are both facing. 

Amazon Prime Video announced that they will be releasing the movie adaptation of this book on Sept. 23, 2026. The movie will star Lili Reinhart as Olive and Tom Bateman as Adam. The movie will be directed by Claire Scanlon, who is best known for directing “Set It Up” (2018) and “The People We Hate at the Wedding” (2022). 

So, if you love a good fake dating plot, along with a grumpy and sunshine character dynamic, then you are going to love this movie. 

“Fake Skating” by Lynn Painter

Now this is a movie that I am extremely excited to see. “Fake Skating” follows two childhood best friends Dani and Alec, who lost touch for a while but reconnected when Dani moved back into town. They both planned on ignoring each other as much as possible. But when Alec gets into some trouble and would do anything to protect his hockey career, he begins a fake relationship with Dani, who just happens to be the granddaughter of a very well-known and respected hockey legend. 

This movie is scheduled to be released on July 16, 2027 and is being produced by Sony Pictures and Will Guck’s Olive Bridge Entertainment. The movie will also be directed by Josh Boone who is best known for directing “The Fault In Our Stars.” As of right now, no lead actors have been publicly announced, but fans are eager to know who is going to be playing their beloved Alec and Dani.

For all my hockey girlies, childhood best friends to lovers, and fake dating lovers, this is the movie for you.

“Better Than The Movies” by Lynn Painter

It is a great time to be a Lynn Painter fan, with not one but two of her books being adapted to the screen. “Better Than The Movies” is a young adult romance that tells the story of Liz Buxbaum and Wes Bennett, two teens who have lived next door to each other their entire lives. Wes is your stereotypical jock, who plays baseball and loves to make Liz as annoyed as possible. Liz is a romance girl through and through. She would much rather get lost in the world of ‘60s rom-coms than ever see Wes Bennett. However, that all changes when Liz’s childhood crush, Michael Young, moves back into town and she would do anything for him to notice her, even if that means starting a relationship with the boy next door that she has never been able to stand. But maybe he’s not as bad as she once thought?

There is no official release date, but this movie is expected to be released on Netflix in the early summer of 2027. The movie will star Beatrice Kitsos as Liz Buxbaum and David Iacono as Wes Bennet. The movie will be directed by Julia Hart, who is best known for directing “I’m Your Woman” (2020) and “Don’t Say Good Luck” (2026).

If you’re like me and you love a good fake dating and childhood enemies-to-lovers trope, then this is the movie for you. 

“This Summer Will Be Different” by Carly Fortune

If you watched the Amazon Prime Video TV show “Every Year After” then this is definitely the show for you. Written by the same author as “Every Summer After,” the book that the show “Every Year After” is based on, comes the book “This Summer Will Be Different.” This book tells the romance story of Lucy Ashby and Felix Clark, who just so happen to be the little brother of Lucy’s best friend Bridget. The two characters spend years hiding their on-and-off secret romance before Lucy ultimately decides it’s best for them to break up for good. But when Bridget faces a major issue before her wedding and needs Lucy to return to the island where they all met, that relationship might not be as over as they thought.

Netflix announced that they will be adapting the book into a TV show. While the release date hasn’t been announced, it is expected to come out in the summer of 2027 at the earliest. Sophie NĂ©lisse was cast as Lucy Ashby, Roby Attal as Felix Clark and Francesca Reale as Bridget Clark. The show will be directed by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, who are best known for directing “Long Branch” (2011) and “Suze” (2023).

If you love a good summer getaway romance, forbidden love and strong female friendships, then this is definitely the show for you.

“Fourth Wing” by Rebecca Yarros

This is probably one of the most anticipated releases, and also very different from the other books I have talked about. “Fourth Wing” has blown up all over “BookTok” and has quickly become one of the most popular books among readers. The book is a romantic fantasy that follows a 20-year-old fragile woman named Violet Sorrengail who has to survive a brutal military college for dragon riders. Violet would have preferred a quiet life rather than the intense college, but she had no choice, as her mother forced her to attend. As she is attending this school and fighting for her life, she meets Xaden Riorson, who quickly becomes her biggest rival at the school. 

Amazon Prime Video announced that they will be adapting the popular book into a TV show, and that it will be directed by Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society, which is best known for “Fahrenheit 451” (2018) and “Creed III” (2023). As of right now, there is no expected release date, and no actors have been cast. So if you love this book and have always wanted to act, maybe this is your chance.

If you love a good fantasy romance novel, then this is your sign to start reading “Fourth Wing” before it comes to your screen.
