Do you have The X Factor or The Voice?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Ever since American Idol became a huge sensation, we have become more obsessed with singing competition shows. The hottest two right now? It’s a battle between The X Factor and The Voice. Having trouble deciding which one to watch? Here are a couple of reasons why you should check out one (or both!) of them out now!

Reasons to watch The X Factor

1. Britney Spears and her many faces

Whether you like her or not, Britney Spears is a huge pop icon. Chances are you can both sing along to her biggest hits, and remember the costumes she wore in the music videos. Besides being a massive star, she undeniably has the best facial expressions when it comes to the performances. Between her expressions and her harsh critiques, this pop star is not holding back.

2. Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell are this season’s dynamic duo

These two judges are a perfect match for a singing competition show. If it’s not Demi calling Simon old, it’s Simon calling Demi a brat. Simon is just as honest and offensive as he was on Idol while Demi balances him out by charming the audience with her sincere honesty and youthful critique.

3. The auditions range from incredible to crazy

Similar to Idol, you will see EVERYTHING that goes on. The contestants all share a quick back-story before taking the stage. While you’ll see some contestants auditioning for the fame, others are auditioning to chase their dreams. When the contestants take the stage, you’ll see the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Reasons to watch The Voice

1. The contestants are dedicated…and some are already famous

The Voice only shows the best auditions. While some of the performers might not be chosen by any of the judges, it’s obvious that they had enough talent to get that far. Some of the contestants are already have a name in the music business. Juliet Simms was the singer for the band Automatic Loveletter before she was on the show last season. This season, Cassadee Pope, singer for Hey Monday, is also in the competition.

2. The judges are all award-winning

This means they know what they’re doing. These guys have been in the music business for a long time, so they’re the perfect group to find the next rising star. The fact that the producers can put a country musician, a pop star, a rapper and a rock star together to find the next music sensation is exhilarating and entertaining.

3. Adam Levine

Need I say more? The banter between him and Blake Shelton is so funny on the show; you’d think they’re brothers. If the singing won’t reel you in, then Levine’s rock star good looks definitely will.
