Designers from around the world gathered in New York City February 9 to 16 to showcase their collections for Fall 2012. Of course, each designer had their own individual style and ideas, but several designers showed a few similar trends. Be sure to keep these in mind for next fall and maybe even get a head start on shopping!

Furry Sleeves
One new trend seen on the catwalk this past week was the use of fur in unpredictable places. Designers, such as Jason Wu, Herve Leger and BCBG, showcased fur as sleeves and took the predictable trend of wearing fur to a new level.

Leather
Leather was also a big trend on the runway for the fall. Not only were leather leggings and jackets showcased, but flair leather skirts and dresses also made an appearance. A few designers chose head-to-toe leather looks, too.

Blanket Coats
These coats are a great way to keep you both warm and stylish. The models at New York Fashion Week sported blanket coats in all different lengths and colors to represent each individual designer’s style. Rag and Bone’s looks were more urban and grungy; whereas, Michael Kors added fur for a more upscale look.

Peter Pan Collar
Looking to add a little more fun to your wardrobe? Try a Peter Pan collar. Tory Burch, Rachel Antonoff and Victoria Beckham all had designs that featured collars similar to Peter Pan’s.

Funky Hats
Whether you want to hide your bad hair day or add something to a plain outfit, hats are your must-have item. An overwhelming number of designers featured all different types of hats in their new fall collections.

Curly and Wavy Hair
So it’s not exactly fashion, but curly and wavy hair was a trend nonetheless. Designers had their models styled in a variety of ways, but one of the more prominent hairstyles was natural-looking curly or wavy hair. Collections, such as Ports and Ruffian, featured curls and waves to finish off their looks.
