Best And Worst Dressed At The SAG Awards

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.
Awards season is officially in full swing, and Sunday brought us the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Help was a big winner, but the dresses were what really mattered (at least to me!). Below are some of the best and worst looks of the night.

BEST

Viola Davis from The Help has been universally acknowledged as one of the best-dressed stars of the night. Not only did she pick up the best actress award, but she also wowed in a figure flattering white dress with gold detailing. She kept her accessories simple and let the dress do the talking.

BEST

Emma Stone, also representing The Help, showed up in a tea-length black dress and ankle-strap pumps. The dress was youthful without being too childlike. She wore bright pink lipstick for a pop of color, but my favorite detail was the interesting clasp on her clutch.

BEST

Glee’s Jayma Mays, who plays the shy guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury, shone in a glittery, cap-sleeved black dress with an impressive train. The elegant dress paired with simple hair and makeup was just edgy enough without going over-the-top.

BEST

Although her look was one of the more out-there ensembles of the night, there was something intriguing about Rose Byrne‘s beaded ivory jumpsuit. The fact that it fit the Bridesmaids star so well kept the look from getting crazy. Sleek hair and simple makeup completed the look.

WORST

There were no fashion crimes of epic proportions at the SAG Awards this year, but some actresses could have picked more flattering outfits. Meryl Streep chose a long-sleeved, draped blue dress but paired it with a clunky brown belt that did nothing to flatter her figure.

WORST

Shailene Woodley, who was representing the film The Descendents, apparently decided to draw upon the film’s Hawaiian location when selecting her dress. The splashy, printed dress was not only over-the-top, but it was also not the most flattering choice for someone as young and thin as her.

WORST

Finally, athough there is no doubt Angelina Jolie looks good in anything she wears, her boring black dress felt like the same thing she’s worn on the red carpet a million times before. Either the cut of the dress or her thinness in general caused her to look scary-skinny as she walked the red carpet with Brad Pitt.
