Emily Maynard, 25, first came into the spotlight during the 15th season of The Bachelor featuring Brad Womack.Â
Long story short: Why is she The Bachelorette you ask? For the same reason that most people who “win” on The Bachelor/ette series are now single. They faced complications* in the real world. yes”> And…they failed.
*The fact that Brad regularly had to see a counselor throughout his season regarding his commitment issues? Red Flag. Doomed.
I’ll admit, despite the show’s poor success rate I am definitely rooting for Emily to find true love this season. She was the kindest on the show during Brad’s season and I appreciated that she stuck to her guns and called it quits on their relationship despite immense media pressure to keep it going.Â
Normally, someone who has “won” in a season doesn’t appear on the show again. The fact that Emily was chosen as an exception says a lot about her personality. She’s adorable and all of America will be rooting to see her find a man!
Oh, and if you didn’t watch her on Brad’s season, there’s a twist to Emily’s story.
She’s a mom, and the father of her young daughter was killed in a tragic plane crash right before she discovered she was pregnant. If that sad story doesn’t make her deserving of a happy ending, what does?
This queen of a Bachelorette needs some kings to pick from. Thanks to ABC’s website, we have some short bios of the contestants vying for her heart. Here are the best and worst of the bunch in my opinion:
The Best
Arie
I’m on the fence about Arie. This happens to be the same profession of Emily’s deceased first love, Rickey. Emily also shared on her previous season that she was very into racing and often traveled with Rickey to different races. She will have a common interest with Arie but it might be a painful reminder of her past. Isn’t he cute though?
Lerone
I put Lerone in the “best” category because I liked what he said in his bio about being comfortable in one’s own skin. Based on a very brief bio, he seems like a chill guy and I think Emily needs someone relaxed and reliable.Â
Doug
Doug is cute and he talks about being dependable in his bio. Both are good, but what made him stand out to me is the fact that he is a charity director! I would hope that being a charity director means he has a good heart.Â
Alessandro
I feel like Alessandro could go really far or get cut very quickly. He is a grain merchant from Brazil. To me, this is very exciting and intriguing. To Emily, it might be too far out of her comfort zone. However, the person he admires most is his mother for how she raised his family.Awww.
Â
The Worst
Brent
Brent is 41. Emily is 25. He’s almost twice her age! Emily seems mature for her age, but maybe a guy closer to her age would help keep her young. Brent is just too old. And if you need another reason, he’s got a ton of tattoos.Â
Jean-Paul
Jean-Paul actually seems like a neat guy minus the slightly creepy eyebrow look in his picture. He’s a marine biologist that seems educated and loves the beach. The reason why I put him on the worst list is because he talks about spontaneously quitting his job and dropping everything. Emily needs stability, which is what Brad ultimately lacked. My mind is open to being changed though.
Michael
Long hair. Cringe.Â
Stevie
Oh, Stevie. For one, his profession is Party MC. Second, he says that he considers Vegas to be the most romantic city. For another girl, Stevie could be the perfect guy. But an MC that loves Vegas doesn’t seem like good father material for Emily’s little girl. Â
Â
All in all, it’s going to be an interesting season with a lot of new twists. Will Brad show up at some point? How will the men interact with Emily’s daughter (if at all)?Â
You can watch the season premiere of The Bachelorette 8 on Mon. May 14th at 9:30/8:30c. Then, come back each week as I recap the show and throw in my thoughts on Emily’s decisions!
