8 TV Shows to Help You Get into the Fall Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

The weather is getting cooler and the leaves are starting to change, which means it’s time to bust out your sweaters and your apple cider! If you are anything like me, you are excited for fall to start. I have compiled a list of some of the shows I have been watching to get a jump-start on the fall festivities.

Over The Garden Wall

I have become obsessed with this short series put out by Cartoon Network. It is available to store on Hulu, and it is one season with 10-15 minute episodes. This show is both cute and a little spooky, but overall won’t keep you awake at night. The show has a perfect balance of lightheartedness while also being a little intense at times. This is an easy watch if you don’t have a lot of time to spare!

What We Do in The Shadows

The best way for me to describe this Hulu show is that it is The Office for vampires. It is very funny and a lot of time, crude. This show is for someone who likes dirty humor. The show is also great because if you miss an episode, you can still enjoy the next ones.

American Horror Story: Coven

Admittedly, any season of AHS is guaranteed to be scary. I personally think this is a good season for fall because of the witches. The show is dark and has a lot of twists and turns. It also has a cameo of Stevie Nicks! If you have an interest in magic, witches, or just want something a little more on the scary side, this is the show for you!

Stranger Things Season 1

Any season of this show could suffice, but I feel as the first really gives the fall vibes due to the Halloween scene. In the end, it does start to go towards Christmas but the scary events are too good to skip out on. This show was huge and I personally want to rewatch it before the next season comes out!

Chilling adventures of sabrina

This show is one of my favorites. I love witches and magic and that is what this show is all about. No matter the season, the town always seems to give off fall energy. This show is good because it isn’t super scary, but isn’t childish and cutesy. It also is a good coming-of-age story and explores a lot of current ideas. Plus, we love the LGBTQ+ representation.

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorperated

Take a trip back to your childhood with this show. This is my favorite Scooby-Doo content because of the animation style and the craziness of some of the plot. It has my favorite episode featuring The Hex Girls and is something light you can put on when you need a pick-me-up!

Anne with an E

This show was recommended to me by one of my friends. It is a period piece but it still has ways of discussing modern ideas and issues. This show has three seasons, so you can binge it or keep watching until winter comes around. This show was also based on the classic book, “Anne of Green Gables,” so if you love to read, you can always start with the book first.

Midnight MAss

If you enjoyed The Haunting of Hill House, you should enjoy this show as well. Both are created by the same director and available on Netflix. You ought to get some horror from this show. Midnight Mass is for someone who enjoys horror and doesn’t mind losing some sleep. It is the perfect show to start if you are tired of watching the same horror movies every season.

I am amazed at how many options of shows really make me think of fall. There is one out there for everyone to get in the fall spirit, no matter what their favorite genre is! So, get out a warm drink and your favorite blanket and start watching.
