There’s no doubt that taking a vacation somewhere warm can take a toll on your hair. Blazing sun, chlorine and overwhelming humidity are far from gentle. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Use these quick tips to protect your tresses and come back from spring break with hair everyone will be jealous of!Â
1. Make sure to pack your own shampoo and conditioner, as well as leave-in conditioner. The tiny bottles provided at hotels might not be suited for your hair type, resulting in disaster!
2. The heat (from the sun and from heat tools) that your hair will be dealing with could dry it out. To keep it from getting brittle, do a leave-in mask once or twice during the week. Try Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Treatment ($7.29 at drugstores).
3. If you have color-treated hair, pack shampoo and conditioner that will help retain your hair’s color and keep it hydrated. We suggest ZOTO’s Biotera Ultra Color Care 5-in-1 Cleansing Conditioner ($8.29 at Sally Beauty Supply). We got to try it out in our #HCSurvivalKits and it is simply amazing!
4. Salt water and chlorine can damage the hair after spending the day in the water. To protect it, spray it with leave-in conditioner and twist it into a bun. This way, your hair won’t absorb as many chemicals, leaving your hair healthy! Check out It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner ($17.99 at drugstores).
5. If you’re spending a lot of time in a pool on spring break, you might want to invest in a clarifying shampoo at the end of the week. This shampoo will strip your hair of the chlorine and other impurities it has collected on vacation. Try Nothing But Clarifying Shampoo ($7.99 at drugstores).
6. Try a keratin treatment. The weather is most likely going to be humid, which can cause big frizz. This kind of treatment will keep your hair smooth and shiny throughout the whole trip — making it easier for you to relax and manage your hair. We suggest TRESemmé’s Keratin 7-Day Smooth Control ($6.49 at Target). We tested it out… it really works! #HCSurvivalKits
