In 2016, Pokémon Go hit iOS and Android app stores across the globe, breaking the record for most App Store downloads on iOS in a single week. It was incredibly popular and was considered a social media phenomenon, praised for its ability to bring people together.

That was four years ago. Although there are countless users that continue to play, many have called it quits. I was never that into the game when it was first released, but once I got back into it a couple of months ago, I became obsessed. Here are five reasons why I think you’ll love it just as much as I do.

It encourages you to exercise

Sure, walking may not be vigorous exercise, but it can be used as a motivator to get your body up and moving. If you want to run, go for it! As we all have heard, exercise is good for the body and the mind. If you need some more motivation to get out of your room, Pokémon Go is a simple, cost-free method.

Being on or near a college campus is a huge plus

College campuses have an abundance of gyms and Pokéstops. This means you’ll find more items from spinning a Pokéstop, catch more Pokémon that are raid-exclusive, and earn more coins from putting your Pokémon in a gym. This is all because of the sheer amount of stops and gyms for you to take advantage of.

The updated buddy feature is super sweet

In late 2019, Pokémon Go released an update that allows you to grow closer to your favorite Pokémon. You earn hearts by feeding them, walking with them, playing with them, and more. Over time, as these hearts accumulate, you and your chosen partner- Pokémon will become better buddies. This can result in different rewards, such as your buddy bringing you items and a catch-assist feature.

The GO Battle League is a lot of fun

In January, Pokémon Go introduced the GO Battle League, allowing players to battle other players across the world. Winning battles results in different rewards, such as more stardust, a chance to catch Pokémon rarely seen in the wild, and rare candies that you can use to help evolve a Pokémon of your choice. Although it’s a bit challenging at times, it’s an enjoyable new feature that is surely drawing people back into the game.

Pokémon are just so cute

They’re like pets you get to take care of and raise. You don’t have to worry about losing them either—no one has any way of taking them away from you. Since Pokémon Go was first released, hundreds more Pokémon have been added to the game. You’re bound to find one you like.
