Class registration can be completely overwhelming, to say the least. Trying to meet with your advisor, schedule classes so they don’t overlap, and meet every requirement to graduate on time can give even the brightest student a headache. In order to ease the process, Her Campus discovered fun and nontraditional classes hidden in the MyZou catalogue.

Hospitality Management 3233: Professional Beverage Management

·      Fall 2012 Average GPA: 3.808

Want to impress your friends by pairing steak with the perfect glass of wine? Professional Beverage Management gives students these skills by teaching them about different types of drinks and how to match them with food based on different senses. Students will also learn how to manage and organize their own bar. Party, anyone? (For Hospitality majors only)

 

Textile and Apparel Management 2500: Social Appearance in Time and Space

Ever wonder why some girls rock 4-inch neon stilettos or a leopard mini skirt? This class teaches you why people dress a certain way! Learn why people wear certain outfits and how them present themselves though their clothes. (Social Science Course and Writing Intensive)

 

Theatre 1360: Stage Makeup

If you love dolling yourself up with makeup and experimenting with new looks, why not earn credit for it? Stage Makeup teaches students how analyze TV and stage characters and create a makeup look perfect for them. You even get to try them out! You’ll be able to practice your looks at a girls’ night in no time!

Sociology 3430: The Sociology of Sport

Are you a rockstar on the volleyball court or the MVP of your tennis team (or even a couch potato…?) If so, learning about sports is the perfect way to knock out a gen-ed! Learn what sports mean and what impact they have in society. Topics vary from sports violence to gender issues. Plus, you’ll now be able to have conversations about the latest ESPN story with that cute guy down the hall. Win win! (Social Science Course)

 

Music for Nonmajors 1300: Experiencing Music Through Concert Attendance

A class where you get to attend concerts? Yes, this is real life. Experiencing Music Through Concert Attendance lets you hang out at concerts and allows you to improve your music listening skills. Who knows if you’ll get to see the next Katy Perry or Justin Timberlake? Before signing up, make sure you’re available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights! (Humanities Course, 1 Credit)

English 2169: Jay-Z and Kayne West

·      Fall 2012 GPA: 3.247-3.444

Love music but not into the concert scene? You’re still in luck! Jay-Z and Kayne West teaches students about how these rappers changed the music industry and compares them to poets. Plus, you’ll get to watch their music videos in class! This will be a course you won’t want to skip! (Humanities Course)

Brooke Hofer is a senior at the University of Missouri. She is majoring in Strategic Communications through the School of Journalism while also pursuing minors in Classics, Psychology and a general Honors degree. In addition to writing for Her Campus, Brooke is an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority (Epsilon Iota chapter), Vice President of Sigma Alpha Pi, and she is a barista in the Columbia, Missouri area.
