Our family friends, my mom, and I bonded over one big thing– Disney. So naturally, when the youngest of our group turned 21, we drove ourselves down to Orlando to take on the Drink Around the World challenge at Disney World’s EPCOT. In each country, we split one drink and one snack between the five of us. Here’s the breakdown of everything we tried throughout the day:
Norway
We started off our day in Norway where, after riding Frozen Ever After first thing in the morning, we ventured over to Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe for our treats. For our drink, we chose to try the Iced Viking Coffee, featuring frozen cold brew, Baileys, Kamora, coffee-chocolate sauce, and a coffee-chocolate crunch garnish for $17.50. This was easily one of our favorite drinks of the day, so good we Googled an at-home recipe to save for later. For our snack, we decided to try the viral Troll Horn, a crunchy, flaky, horn-shaped dough shell covered in sugar with a whipped chocolate cream filling and finished with a coffee-chocolate crunch topping for $4.79. We were sorely disappointed by this snack and didn’t understand the hype at all. It was very dry and nothing to write home about.
Mexico
Next, we headed to Mexico for lunch at La Cantina de San Angel where we got the empanadas, fried flour tortillas filled with cheese, topped with sour cream, salsa verde, and queso fresco and served with a side of Mexican rice and black beans for $14.75. These are always a staple of ours when visiting EPCOT for being delicious and filling. With our empanadas, we had a Frozen Strawberry Margarita from Choza de Margarita for $14.95. Featuring Tequila Blanco, strawberry puree, prickly pear puree, Lejay Créme de Cassis, and lime juice, this marg was tasty, but nothing special, it was kind of just another margarita.
China
We made our way to China third, where we stopped at Lan Yuan, a drink cart exclusive to the International Flower and Garden Festival, for a Frozen Lucky Peach. Made with peach whiskey, peach schnapps, oolong tea, simple syrup, and lemon juice, this $14.25 drink tasted just like juice and paired well with our snack, $5.35 Lychee Icecream from The Lotus Blossom Cafe. While the drink was delicious, our group had mixed opinions on the ice cream. I personally liked its subtle sweetness, but others thought it was “too milky.”
Germany
Our next stop was Bauernmarkt: Farmer’s Market, another Flower & Garden Festival exclusive, in Germany for their Beer Flight of Stiegl Brewery Raspberry Radler, Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, and Bitburger Premium Pils for $10.25. These were absolutely awful, by far the worst of the day. I’m not even sure we finished them. We’re all proud beer haters though so we might be biased. Our snack came from Karamell-Küche and was a yummy Caramel Butter Bar for $5.79. This was fresh and gooey but was incredibly sweet and rich. A small piece was enough for all of us.
Italy
Next, we made a stop in Italy at the Via Napoli Snack Cart for a Limoncello made with limoncello, orange juice, pineapple juice, and peach purée. This simple drink was our absolute favorite of the day. Even my mom, the pickiest of our group, had no complaints. The $9.25 Cheese Pizza from Pizza al Taglio, on the other hand, was a disappointment. We’ve had our fair share of pizza around Disney World and this pizza was noticeably not up to par.
United States of America
In the good ‘ole USA, we grabbed a Blackberry Moonshine from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse walk-up bar. Made with blackberry moonshine, blood orange sour mix, lemon juice, and blackberry simple syrup and costing $17.50, this drink was absolutely amazing. We were very tempted to buy more than a few refills of this. Our second favorite snack of the day, $10.98 Mac & Cheese and Onion Rings, also came from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. We get this snack every trip and it never misses.
Japan
Our next drink came from The Garden House in Japan. The Violet Sake, including dry sake, monin desert pear syrup, Rose’s Sweetened Lime Juice, and water, had a very unique flavor but was VERY strong. Our snack in Japan was Frushi, another Flower & Garden Festival exclusive. It featured strawberry, pineapple, and lychee wrapped in coconut rice and a pink soy wrap, served with whipped cream, a drizzled berry sauce, and coconut flakes and can be found in the Hanami Outdoor Kitchen for $7.75. It was refreshing and tasty, but ultimately not as fun and flavorful as other snacks.
Morocco
Next, we explored Morocco. At Oasis Sweets & Sips, we ordered a $16.50 Frozen Citrus-Pomegranate Slushy. Made with a blend of citrus and pomegranate juices mixed with Absolut Mandarin Vodka, this drink was AMAZING. We were obsessed with this drink for the rest of the trip and seriously debated going back for another at the end of the day. We also ordered our snack, the Moroccan Mosaic Cookie, a shortbread-style jam sandwich cookie for $2.75. This cookie was sweet without being too rich and was very good. While it wasn’t my absolute favorite, my friend still raves about that cookie to this day.
France
In France, we visited Les Vins des Chefs de France for a $14.95 Citron Slush made with Grey Goose Citron vodka, regular vodka, and lemonade. This was very tasty, but the real stars of France were our snacks. Yes, we cheated and got two snacks here. At Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie we got a delicious Raspberry Mousse and a tasty Croque Monsieur. Honestly, we didn’t expect to like these snacks as much as we did, but they were some of our favorites that we tried. The Raspberry Mousse in particular was my pick for top sweet treat of the day.
United Kingdom
As we began to near the end of our day, we stopped by the UK Beer Cart for $9.75 Sparkling Pear Cider featuring Hard Pear Cider, pear juice, sugar, and citric acid. This drink was good, but kind of un-memorable. Our snack here was Fish & Chips from the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. I wasn’t a huge fan myself, but the rest of the group seemed to approve. Overall though, the UK was very underwhelming in the food and beverage department.
Canada
Our final stop of the day was in Canada. We ordered our drink at the Canada Popcorn Cart. Made of Canadian whisky, maple, apple infusion/schnapps, and cranberry juice, the Ottawa Apple was very tasty and kind of tasted like fancy apple juice. Our snack was L’Authentique Poutine, french fries topped with cheese curds and traditional brown gravy, from La Poutinerie for $10.99. I always look forward to the EPCOT Poutine and this was my number one snack of the day.
We walked out (or rolled out tbh) of the park having spent way too much money and having eaten way too much. But it was definitely worth it. We can’t wait for our next trip, when are you planning yours?
