Okay, we have to come to terms here. Summer is over. It is now dark by 7:30 pm. No more swimming and lying out at Lake Calhoun. We actually have this thing called school? And homework?

The start of fall begins the boring lecture halls, libraries, and all nighters. It also brings college football, cozy sweaters, and perfect weather! The crisp air and leaves starting to turn colors make me want to curl up with a big hearty bowl of soup or a nice hot mug of Chai Tea.

So even though we have school starting up, make some time to check out these places, before the state freezes over!

Here’s a list of some of my favorite places for a hearty fall meal or a big mug o’ tea. Check ‘em out!

  • Hell’s Kitchen-You walk into what seems like the basement of an office building and go down a set of stairs and enter what it seems like an exclusive club. You enter a crowded room with a live band in the corner. They food and atmosphere provides a unique experience. They serve delicious vegetarian Huevos Rancheros and the walls are covered with snarky quotes and spooky pictures. This is a great restaurant to hit up for a night out in downtown Minneapolis.
  • Mill City Farmers Market-I know what you’re thinking, it’s too cold for a Farmers Market! But actually, right now is the best time to visit the market. The vendors have huge harvests of all of their produce-pumpkins, apples, veggies, and more! You can turn a trip to buy some veggies into a fun day-long activity at this market. Every Saturday from 8-1 there are food demos, a petting zoo, live music, and more. Vendors serving hot cocoa and Chef Shack’s famous donuts as well.
  • Bryant Lake Bowl-This hipster uptown hot spot is perfect for a fall date night. Grab a burger, fries, and a bowling ball! Don’t bowl with greasy fingers though! It’s easy to get to from campus too by just hopping on the 6 Metro bus.
  • Victor’s 1959 CafeThis hole in the wall breakfast restaurant is about as real as it gets. They serve authentic Cuban food and you get to write on the wall. They have great hearty omelets to start your morning right-just make sure to get there early if you are going on a weekend! It’s a really small place and the line goes out the door!
Edwina is entering her senior year at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where she is majoring in Public Relations. This past summer she worked as an orientation leader for Orientation & First Year Programs and was the marketing intern at Mill City Farmers Market. She loves chai tea, the Chicago Bears, country music, and exploring Minneapolis! For more info check out http://about.me/edwinareckel and you can follow her on twitter @ersreck!
