For those of you who know me, I’ve been dating my boyfriend Owen for over a year. However, we’ve known each other since we were 17. As my 22nd birthday is soon approaching and our anniversary having been just last month, I want to reflect on how love has changed for me. Throughout high school and college, there has been a lot of trial and error with heartbreaks and happiness. In the past year, Owen has shown me everyday what it means to be loved, and I know he will for the rest of our lives. In a deeply personal article, let me share with you what love feels like.

Love feels like the prettiest orange-pink sunset at 8 pm. I love to stare at the sunset and admire the beauty that nature created and gave me. It’s complete awe for the most gorgeous person in the world staring back at you.

Love feels patient. It’s an age old saying, but it’s true. My level of patience has been tested so much this year from not only my relationship, but with teaching itself. Owen and I are very different people with different dreams. Regardless, we’ve been patient with each other to communicate and listen to each other. He’s been patient with my anxiety and fears.

Love feels like a bite of the cheesiest pizza. It’s sweet and enjoyable and gives a filling feeling. It becomes a part of you as a whole. It fills you up with the joy of the world.

Love feels like a stomach ache from laughing so hard at the stupidest thing. A cat falling off the couch brings laughter. Tickles and squirming feels like a happy childhood of giggles and rainbows.

Love feels like the most thrilling, complete and fulfilling sensation in the world. I never thought that Owen would be the love of my life when I met him. He shows me what it means to be loved. He showed me how to love myself and be accepted as who I am.

To quote Bridgerton’s Duke of Hastings,

To Meet A Beautiful Woman Is One Thing, But To Meet Your Best Friend In The Most Beautiful Of Women Is Something Entirely Apart

I’ve met the most gorgeous man in the world and he is my best friend. I get to love him for everyday of my life and continue to learn with him forever about ourselves as people and a couple.

HCXO,

Cecilia
