With summer vastly approaching, many of us are trying to find new and innovative ways to get our beach bods in shape. From “squat” challenges, “body wraps”, “diet pills” and not eating anything after 9 p.m., there’s never an easy way to shed those extra pounds without compromising some part of our daily lives.

If you ask me, there’s really only one way to lose weight and keep it off, and that’s by adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating nutritious meals, exercising daily and getting plenty of beauty rest. But for those of us who cannot wait any longer, health specialists have found a new weight loss supplement that ensures results without the hassle of sweating out your hair at the gym

What is Garcinia Cambogia?

Garcinia Cambogia also known as Malabar Tamarind, contains Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), which can help support healthy weight loss. Garcinia is a plant native to India, Southeast Asia and Polynesia. Local populations for centuries have eaten its fruits, and it has also been used to give flavor to culinary dishes. You may have heard about Garcinia Cambogia and its magic on the Dr. Oz show, but does it really work?

The HCA extract from garcinia cambogia supplement aids in weight loss by doing two things: 1.) It helps to block fat, and 2.) It suppresses your appetite. HCA blocks fat by inhibiting a key enzyme that your body needs to make fat from carbohydrates. Usually carbohydrates or sugars that are not used immediately are stored in other forms or converted into fats. When HCA inhibits citrate lyase, the fat-making process is halted and the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides decrease.

Is this supplement safe?

The plant and its fruit have been eaten safely for years. The HCA extract is also safe in normal amounts. However, don’t take this supplement if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are taking a diabetic medication (like insulin or glyburide), talk to a doctor before taking this to make sure this is right for you, otherwise this supplement may allow your blood sugar to fall even lower than normal.

Those taking a satin (a cholesterol-lowering drug) should use this supplement with caution because it can increase the risk of harmful side effects, like rhabdomyolysis or muscle degradation.

Does Garcinia Cambogia really work?

Unlike many weight loss pills, Garcinia Cambogia will not drain your body of vital water needed to function properly. It attacks the unhealthy fat in your body without taking the nutritious components that your body needs to function properly. More importantly, this is a natural and healthy method to weight loss. Not only does Garcinia Cambogia control your desire to eat, but it simultaneously attacks and eliminates unhealthy fat already settled in your body.

Other healthy alternatives

Healthy weight loss should be the main objective in your journey to a better you. Although dietary supplements are up and coming in today’s society, it is always best to go back to the basis in eating right and exercising daily. As college students, we tend to want fast results with little consequences. In relation to our health, we need to be mindful of the side effects that come with taking diet pills. If you are considering using Garcinia Cambogia, make sure to talk to your health care provider. As women we all want to look our best while conquering the world, and with the right education on weight loss supplements we can add that extra boost to our daily health routine. Getting lots of sleep along with a meal plan that suits your dietary needs, will have you sliding into your dream summer swim suit in no time!
