A few days ago, I had the joy of getting to sit down with Alyssa, a fellow writer. Alyssa is a senior here at Millersville University and will be graduating this coming May. She is a Communications major with a focus in public relations with a double minor in marketing and journalism. After asking her why she picked her major, she told me that she chose Communications as a major because she isn’t quite sure what she wants to do after she graduates. Having a comm. degree still leaves a lot of doors open because it is such a broad field that she’ll have a lot of different options to choose from.
Having only joined Her Campus at the start of this semester, I thought it would be good to start by asking Alyssa why she decided to join Her Campus. From the few people that I have gotten to know, everyone has a slightly different reason for joining. Alyssa told me that her friend was originally the one interested in joining. They had first learned about it through Org Outbreak, an event put on by the university to help students find and explore all the different clubs we have to offer. It wasn’t until the fact that you would be able to write articles was mentioned that her interest was really piqued. From the first meeting she ever went to, she fell in love with Her Campus. She said she loved the community and the overall atmosphere, and of course being able to be a full-time writer was an added bonus.
After these questions, I decided it was time to ask some questions that were more on the fun side! I asked Alyssa what her favorite memory for the week so far had been, and after some thinking she finally came to a decision. She told me that her Tuesday morning class had been cancelled, so she broke from her typical Monday schedule and spent the night watching Dexter, a show she had just recently started watching. Usually she saves watching shows for the weekend but decided to treat her Monday as a Friday. She said it seemed like a boring thing to have as a favorite memory, but personally that would have been the highlight of my week as well!
Upon asking her what her favorite way to spend her down time was, I was overwhelmed with just how cute her answer was! She explained that both her and her fiancé really like coffee, so they both spend a lot of time going on coffee dates. They love finding different coffee shops, exploring all the different hole in the wall shops and trying different drinks. The two of them plan to get married on October 17th of next year.
After I had asked all my questions, we spent some time chatting about little things here and there. I loved getting to know Alyssa and can’t wait to get to know her even better during the rest of the year before she graduates and goes out to leave her mark on the world!
