The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Surviving the Rest of the Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

We’re t-five weeks until the end of the semester and if you’re anything like me, you are so beyond ready for it to just end. At this point, nothing sounds less appealing than buckling down and writing that 15-page paper that’s due at the end of next week, or getting around to finishing that PowerPoint for that presentation you have on Monday. However, it’s important to push past your lack of motivation and utter exhaustion and get stuff done. You’ve worked hard this semester, and you deserve to finish strong. Here are some tips that will get you through the final stretch!

1. Map out your life

If you’ve got a hectic schedule, the best thing you can do is sit down, look through your syllabi, and write your upcoming deadlines out either on a calendar or in your planner. This will create not only a quick reference guide, but will also aid you in prioritizing and choosing which assignments to complete first.

2. Force yourself to finish your work

Trust me, I know it’s hard to do, especially when scrolling through your various social media feeds seems so much more enticing. But you’ve got to own the last several weeks of the semester! You’ve made it this far, collegiettes, so don’t let yourselves fall behind now.

3. Remember to take care of yourself

Once you get started, it’s pretty easy to get caught up in the daily grind. Remember to take time for yourself. Take breaks, relax, and recharge. Light your favorite candles, listen to your favorite music, and treat yourself to your favorite snacks. After how hard you’ve been working, you deserve it!

4. Get plenty of sleep

There is nothing worse than trying to type up a paper on 4-5 hours of sleep. And let’s face it, your mind isn’t the only thing that’s lackluster after a poor night’s sleep. If you’re not getting enough rest, your immune system is weakened, leaving you susceptible to that nasty cold/stomach bug that’s been plaguing the campus for the past week or so. So take care of yourself and get enough rest — your body will thank you for it.

5. Plan your post-semester celebration!

Once the final five weeks of the semester are behind you, make sure to reward yourself for working so hard! Have a get-together with some of your closest friends, complete with your favorite snacks and drinks. Or go out to dinner and follow it up with catching the latest comedy at the movie theater. Trust me, you’ll want (need) to laugh after finals week is said and done.

Now go out there and kick this semester’s butt, collegiettes. You got this.

I am a senior at Millersville University, where I am pursuing my bachelor's in communication studies. As the Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus Millersville, I am so thrilled to be able to lead and collaborate with the many creative students that populate our campus. My personal mission as EIC is to spread the word about Her Campus Millersville and bring the chapter back up to pink-level before I graduate in May 2017. In my spare time, I love binge-watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix and spending time with my fiancé and our families. I'm also a sales associate at my local LOFT store and a proud fur mama to a sweet pup named Java. My passions include social media, fashion, coffee, and bad puns. My ultimate dream is to work for Her Campus Media at their headquarters in Boston, MA -- let's hope I can make it there! Instagram: @dezidonaldson
