Sometimes what you’re looking for is right under your own nose. In our search for our next Campus Celeb, one person kept coming to mind– Her Campus Millersville’s very own, Kait Fitzpatrick. This girl can be found all over campus, she’s involved in so many things. Not only is she involved, but she holds tons of leadership positions and does them all well!
Her Campus Millersville sat down with this senior and chatted about her involvement, her favorite things about Millersville and who inspires her, among other things. Enjoy!
Her Campus Millersville: So aside from being president of AGC, you’re pretty involved on campus, what are all of your activities?
Kait Fitzpatrick: Well, I am a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. I am the social media director for Her Campus. I am a producer for MUTV for a show called Hollywood Headlines that focuses on entertainment news. I also have a radio show on WIXQ, the campus station, with one of my sorority sisters. I am a member of the National Broadcasting society as well and I work on campus in the CER in Hash.
HCM: Wow, that’s a lot! How do you balance everything?
KF: Very carefully! My Vera Bradley planner is constantly by my side to keep me aware of what assignments are due as well as what meetings I have to attend. It can be a lot to balance but I absolutely love all of it. There’s not one thing I would want to cut back on.Â
HCM: You’re very passionate about Greek life. Why do you think others should consider joining it?
KF: Greek Life has really done so much for me. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and broaden your horizons. Since joining Greek Life, I have learned skills that will carry me through life. I have gotten the opportunity to enhance my leadership and social skills, as well as to volunteer with many organizations and to meet tons of new people. Greek Life is about being a part of something bigger, and it has allowed me to bond with amazing people both in my organization and in other Greek organizations.
HCM: Why is being involved on campus important to you?
KF:Being involved on campus turned out to be my saving grace. I was very homesick when I was a freshman and I was ready to transfer. As soon as I started getting really involved on campus, I loved it. It’s the easiest way to meet people with common interests and to develop skills that will help you in every aspect of your life.
HCM: How has Millersville helped you overall?
KF: Millersville has helped me to grow as a person. In high school, I had a very narrow focus on everything. I never really went outside of my niche. At Millersville, I had the opportunity to do a bunch of different things that really helped me to develop overall as a person.Â
HCM: What staff or faculty member(s) has influenced you most?
KF: In my major, Dr. Irwin and Dr. Dorman have influenced me so greatly. They have helped me to achieve more than I thought I could. Rather than allowing me to accept my weaknesses, they challenged me to work hard and conquer obstacles.  In my campus involvement, Katherine Hendricks has been a huge help to me. She has only been here for a short time and she has already allowed me to see the strengths in my organization but also to look for ways to improve Greek Life as a whole. One of Millersville’s best attributes is that they have faculty and staff that are willing to listen and help you.
HCM: What’s your favorite thing about Millersville?
KF: I love the Student Memorial Center.  I spend an unhealthy amount of time there. Whether I’m in the Galley or the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, I’m constantly running into friends. I feel like the SMC is one of the best places to socialize on campus. It also has so many services to offer that more students should take advantage of.
HCM: Any advice for younger students?
KF: My best advice for younger students would be to get involved immediately. The sooner you get involved, the more chances you will have to take on leadership roles. Don’t limit your activities to what you think you know about yourself. I thought I was set in my major when I came to Millersville but my parents, friends, and professors gave me the courage to pursue my dreams and now I couldn’t be happier.
HCM: Anything else you’d like to tell Her Campus readers?
KF: The only other thing I can say is that 4 years goes by fast! College is more than just going to class. College memories will last you a lifetime! It’s important to put yourself out there and take advantage of every opportunity.
