Face it—we all waste spend so much time on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and StumbleUpon. The Internet is what our generation turns to when they’re procrastinating a paper or avoiding that pile of dishes in the sink. But even someone with 1,293 Facebook friends and countless Twitter followers will eventually run out of photo albums to browse, Disney quotes to re-tweet and cookie recipes to stumble.
But never fear! As a well-seasoned college senior and pro-procrastinator, I have a list of sites on hand to surf when all you want to do is put off that post you have to do on D2L.
Her Campus: This should go without saying, but it can’t hurt, right? Her Campus’s main site is a wealth of information for any college girl, and the My Campus sub-sections personalize the whole experience! And not only can you browse your own school’s page, but you can check up on news and trends from across the country on any other My Campus branch.
Thought Catalog: I found this site when someone re-tweeted an article and I’ve been an avid follower ever since. There are thousands of thoughtful, witty and humorous articles about life, love, sex, culture and more. The site is updated several times a day and new pieces are uploaded regularly. It’s a never-ending stream of entertainment! A few of my favorites include the humorous 10 Things 90s Kids Will Have To Explain To Their Children to the slightly more serious (but still funny) How To Stop Caring So Much. Follow them on Twitter to stay updated!
Glamour.com Blogs: My love for blogs can be traced back to Glamour magazine’s online blogs. The bloggers writing for the five sections (Fashion; Beauty; Sex, Love & Life; Weddings; and Health & Fitness) are witty, entertaining and super personable! The most fun part of the blogs is the comment section where you can post and read others’ posts to discuss the topic of the article. The writers often get involved in the discussion. Check out these blogs when you’re bored for an endless supply of beauty tips, fashion finds, future wedding ideas and celeb gossip galore.
Pinterest: Pinterest has quickly gained Internet popularity and is growing. Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows you to browse “pins” from other users and pin them to boards you create in order to save the ideas. You can peruse everything—recipes, DIY crafts, fashion, beauty, places around the world, art, design, wedding ideas… shall I continue?
Sporcle: Sporcle’s tagline is “mentally stimulating diversions,” and boy is that spot on. If you want to justify your procrastination, head on over and take one of their countless quizzes and challenges. With topics ranging from geography to entertainment to religion to holidays, there are activities fit for anyone. Believe me, you will definitely learn something from this site.
Memestache: While the rest of sites on this list have pretty legitimate content, Memestache is purely for fun. I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit perusing the hilarious pictures on this site. My personal favorite is Musically Oblivious 8th Grader. Enjoy!
So there you have it, my picks for the best sites to procrastinate on this week. But make sure you fit some studying in there, and good luck on finals! See you next semester!
