I am all for a night of movies and snacks. Over quarantine, I began to watch more movies because I finished repeating my favorite shows. Regardless of how much I rewatch movies and shows, there are a few movies that are my favorites in every genre.

Romance

The image is misleading. My favorite romance movie on Netflix is in fact not “To All the Boys I Loved Before.” While I do enjoy that movie, as cliche as it is, I could never consider it my favorite. I do believe that Netflix Original Romance movies are actually great. My favorite romance movie is actually “Someone Great” staring Gina Rodriguez, Britany Snow and DeWanda Wise. This movie surrounds the character Jenny (GR) who broke up with her long time boyfriend right before a major career move. In an attempt to not only feel better about her breakup, but also the cross country move for her career, Jenny enlists the help of her best friends Blair (BS) and Erin (DW). After a day and night of partying, the girls near their goal of one more time attending the music festival Neon Classic together.

This movie makes me, and I cannot stress this enough, SOB. Not only because of the unconditional love and support from 3 college best friends, but because of the love Jenny has for her boyfriend as she’s processing this breakup. It is unconditionally, the greatest love movie I have ever seen to come out of the 2010s.

Comedy

Another unrelated picture, but related to my favorite “movie”. John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid, is something I can watch over and over and continue to laugh even though I know what jokes he is going to make. Something about this man’s humor about his life is repsectful of him and other communities yet it is still hilarious. Also his voice is very funny and I love everything about him.

Horror

I am a big fan of horror movies and there are very few that actually have scared the crap out of me. One of my long time favorite movie series is The Conjuring, which actually isn’t on Netflix. However since this is about Netflix movies specifically, my favorite Netlfix horror movie is As Above So Below. A group of explorers enter the secrets of the French catacombs and unearth chilling secrets and events in search of the Philosopher’s Stone. A thrilling “documentary” follows this group as they explore the meaning of as above so below.

Action and Adventure

I am not a big fan of action and adventure movies however I enjoy when there are some adventure movies that have more of a mysterious side to them. I wouldn’t say I have a favorite in this category, but I have a recommendation. Recently, I watched Enola Holmes starring Milly Bobby Brown. I was pleasently surprised by it and I thought it was a very interesting movie. I feel like they will likely make a sequel. Enola is the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes and she goes on the hunt for her missing mother, but is one step ahead of Sherlock. A surprising ending ties together a great movie.

These are some of my favorite movies in some of the most popular categories on Netflix. Stay tuned for my explanation of the Conjuring Universe.
