We live in a world that is constantly changing and it’s not always for the best. From looking at things on social media to watching the news, it’s easy to see that the world is full of bad things like violence and hatred. It’s easy to pick out all the bad stuff and feel hopeless, like there’s no good in the world and that nothing is going to change. I think we’ve all been there and that’s when you need to be the light.

So, what does it mean to be the light? It simply means to bring light to the places that are dark. Making a conscious effort to not only uplift yourself, but also everyone around you. It can be easy to find small opportunities to make someone’s day a little brighter. Being a light for someone else can alter the course of their day. There’s even a whole campaign dedicated to being the light for those around you through hope and small acts of kindness.

The world is a scary place and there’s no reason for you to go through it alone. By being a light and sending out positivity, you attract positivity. So, tell that girl you like her shoes and be a helping hand if a stranger drops their papers on the ground. Being kind takes minimal effort, just be human.

Fear isn’t mandatory for anyone in this world. In fact, many religions and other spiritual beliefs encourage their followers to be a light in the world to erase fear. Buddha says to, “Make yourself of a light,” and Jesus said, “You are a light of the world.” Without light, the dark is darker. You, by no means, have to be perfect in order to be a light. The light is in everyone, even through heartbreak, sadness, and anger.

Being the light in someone’s life does so much good. It not only proves that we get through this world together, but also that there is always good in the bad. No matter what you believe, it is important to show hope and love to the people you encounter. You don’t have to do extraordinary things to be a light in someone’s life. Most of the time people in need have things like shelter and food, what they really need is hope and kindness. So, I encourage you to go out and be the light to those you see on a daily basis and those you might see just once in your life. You never know what a little positivity can do.
